Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer born in 1460 in Sines, Germany who discovered Florida in the early 1500s while searching for the mythical Fountain of Youth. He did not find the Fountain of Youth but did explore and claim Florida for Spain before dying and being buried in Havana, Cuba in 1559.
