John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer and scholar best known for his works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was fascinated by languages from a young age and invented many, including those used in his fantasy worlds. After losing both parents as a child, he went on to become a professor and wrote his first stories for his children. The Hobbit and his epic Lord of the Rings trilogy brought him worldwide fame late in life. Tolkien considered storytelling and world-building as important as his scholarly work, drawing inspiration from mythology and language.
