Josefina Castellví was born in 1935 in Spain shortly before the Spanish Civil War. She studied biology at the University of Barcelona, specializing in marine microbiology. She was the first woman to head the Spanish Antarctic Base Juan Carlos I, having participated in Antarctic research since 1984 and helping establish the base on Livingstone Island.

Josefina has born on 1st July of 1935.
Was born shortly before the Spanish Civil War.
Her father was doctor and her mother a housewife.They took her to study at the
Monserrat Institute and to the University of Barcelona,where she graduated in Biology
Specialist in marine microbiology, studied at the University of Barcelona. She was the first
woman to head the Antarctic Base Spanish Juan Carlos I.

From the year 1984 she participated in the Organitzation of research in Antartica
and collaborated in the installation of the Base Antartic Spanish Juan Carlos l in
the Livingstone island.
