How to Build a Site in 3 Steps Part 1 – Installation Part 2 – Navigation Part 3 – Content /  Look and Feel
Part 1 – Installation Caveats We are doing a manual install Several steps have been taken care of ahead of time We are using a WAMP server (Windows-based setup)
Part 1 – Installation Summary Prep the server Download the software from Joomla.org Unpack the software Run the installer Move on to Part 2 - Navigation
Prep the Server Make sure you can login   Backup any existing files on the server Create a blank database for Joomla via MyPHPAdmin Create a new FTP user for Joomla
Prep the Server (cont.) Determine your Server Operating System (OS) Determine your PHP version ( version 5 recommended ) Test your website address
Download the Software Download the latest version of the software from Joomla.org Zip package:  http://www.joomla.org/download.html Other packages:  http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/ Current version for 1.5.x: 1.5.7 Current version for 1.0.x: 1.0.15
Unpacking the Software Depending on your OS, unpacking will use different methods, i.e. tar.gz, tar.bz2. For this demo, we are using the ZIP package.
Unpacking the Software (cont.) Use Winzip, 7-zip, or Windows to open the Zip file. Extract the contents to your root directory: i.e. C:\wamp\foodpantry
Run the Installer Go to your site: i.e.  http://localhost/foodpantry  for our demo The installer will begin Follow the directions and fill in the blanks!
Run the Installer – Step-by-step Language Pre-installation check License Database FTP Configuration Configuration Finish!
Run the Installer – Step-by-step Language Choose the language you want your install to use: American English is en-US Hit Next
Run the Installer – Step-by-step Pre-Installation Check All entries should be  green If any entries are  red , resolve the problem before going on. Hit Next
Run the Installer – Step-by-step License Read the License (if you want) Joomla is released under GPL V2 for version 1.5.X Hit Next
Run the Installer – Step-by-step Database Enter the database information you created back in “Prep the Server” Hit Next
Run the Installer – Step-by-step FTP Configuration Enter ftp information to enable the ftp file system layer  Hit Next
Run the Installer – Step-by-step Configuration Fill in Site Name, Admin email, admin password twice Decide if you want the sample data or not Hit Next
Run the Installer – Step-by-step Finish! Follow directions and remove the install folder FIRST!!! Click “site” to go to the main page Click “Admin” to go to Admin panel
