Johnny exhibits self-injurious behavior and aggression at school. A behavior plan was implemented using differential reinforcement to reduce SIB and increase alternative behaviors through functional communication training. The plan involves a visual token board where Johnny can earn pennies for periods without aggression, working towards a preferred reinforcer. If aggression occurs, pennies are not earned and the behavior is ignored with no attention. Other students may be removed from the area until Johnny is calm, at which point he will receive immediate reinforcement for appropriate behavior. Visuals are also part of the behavior plan.
