John Locke was an English philosopher born in 1632 who wrote influential works on political philosophy, epistemology and economics. Some of his most notable works include Two Treatises of Government, which argued that individuals have natural rights including life, liberty and property, and An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, where he developed a theory of mind as a tabula rasa. He was influenced by earlier thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Ibn Seena and later philosopher David Hume.
