John Lennon was born in Liverpool in 1940 and was a founding member of The Beatles, one of the most successful music groups of all time, from 1960 to 1970. After The Beatles broke up, John Lennon moved to New York City with his wife Yoko Ono and continued his solo music career until he was tragically shot and killed by a fan outside his apartment building in 1980 at age 40.
