John was supposed to stay with Jesus. He had prepared his disciples to attend the Messiah. He should have sent them to Jesus. But unfortunately they never followed Jesus except two.
John was supposed to be the greatest after Jesus. But he betrayed Jesus and became the least of least in the Kingdom of Heaven.
John was very respected in Israel, if he had followed Jesus, then the Scribes and Pharisees would have also come to Jesus and accept Jesus.

This document contains the notes from a sermon on John 14:6 and the exclusivity of Christianity. It discusses five reasons why Jesus is the only path to God: 1) God must be approached correctly as he is holy, 2) God's protocols for approaching him must be followed, 3) Jesus is the acceptable mediator between God and man, 4) Jesus's sacrifice is the only sacrifice that satisfies God's demands, 5) One must have the right attitude of assurance and gratitude in coming before God, which is only possible through Jesus. The document argues that while other religions exist, Christianity alone provides what is required for reconciliation with God.

This document discusses examining Jesus' words, deeds, and legacy to understand who he was. It outlines some of Jesus' teachings and miracles. His death and resurrection are said to have defeated mankind's enemy, death, and changed our eternal state. It means forgiveness of sins, salvation, and eternal life for us. We should respond to Jesus' death and resurrection through faith like John, Mary Magdalene, and Thomas, who had immediate, gradual, and eventual faith. It's most important to have faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Jesus' Passion Through the Eyes of John_Resurrection WitnessesStephen Palm
The document discusses John's perspective on Jesus' passion and resurrection based on passages from the Gospel of John. It describes how Mary Magdalene was the first witness to discover the empty tomb and encounter the risen Jesus. It then recounts how Peter and another disciple (presumably John) ran to the tomb after Mary reported it was empty, with John reaching it first but Peter entering before him. The document argues that listing women, whose testimony was deemed unreliable, as the primary witnesses to the resurrection makes the biblical account more likely to be historically accurate.
The document discusses Jesus' early life and ministry. It describes prophecies from Isaiah and others about the Messiah. It details events from Jesus' birth like the Annunciation to Mary, his birth in Bethlehem, and visits from shepherds and wise men. It discusses his presentation at the temple, childhood and family, and his baptism by John the Baptist when he began his ministry. At his baptism the Spirit descended on him and the Father's voice affirmed him as the beloved Son.
This document is a Christmas quiz testing knowledge of biblical facts versus Christmas traditions and legends. It contains 21 multiple choice questions about details of Jesus's birth from the gospels, as well as the origins of figures like Santa Claus. The questions are followed by explanations sourcing answers from the Bible or providing historical context about the development of traditions. Overall, the quiz aims to distinguish biblical truth from cultural myths that have developed around Christmas over time.
This document provides a summary and analysis of Mark 2:1-12, where Jesus heals a paralyzed man. It notes that Jesus first forgives the man's sins, angering teachers of the law who say only God can forgive sins. To prove he has authority to forgive, Jesus then heals the paralyzed man. The document examines the theological and historical context, including Jewish beliefs about sin and suffering. It emphasizes that Jesus met both the man's physical and spiritual needs, and that forgiveness of sins through faith in Christ is God's plan to redeem mankind.
Faith is based on historical evidence of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection as described in the gospels. While faith is personal, it also uses reason as the disciples investigated the empty tomb and scripture. Ultimately, faith is not natural but a gift from God through his grace, as described in Ephesians.
The document provides an overview of Jesus as presented in the four Gospels of the Bible. It discusses Jesus as the teacher who fulfills prophecies and teaches disciples, as the servant who suffers for salvation, as the messiah who heals and preaches to the poor, and as the son of God sent from heaven to be the savior. Key events and teachings from each Gospel are summarized such as the birth of Jesus, his parables, miracles of healing, and his declaration as the Christ or messiah.
The document summarizes the biblical accounts of three witnesses to Jesus' resurrection: Mary Magdalene, Doubting Thomas, and John the Evangelist. It provides background information on each witness and examines their encounters with the resurrected Jesus. It also discusses the importance of eyewitness testimony in establishing the truth of Christianity and the lessons that can be learned from each of the three witnesses.
The document discusses Jesus' identity and actions, including turning over tables in the temple, his discussion with Nicodemus, and his conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. It references Jesus saying the true place of worship will be in spirit and truth, neither on the mountain in Samaria nor in Jerusalem. It also mentions Jesus must be lifted up like Moses lifted the serpent so that all may have eternal life through believing in him.
The document summarizes a sermon about the resurrection of Jesus Christ based on John 20:1-9. It discusses key events from the text including Mary Magdalene finding the empty tomb and informing the disciples. It also examines the significance of Jesus rising on the first day of the week and lessons that can be learned from the disciples' reaction upon discovering the empty tomb.

The document discusses a Christian's relationship to the law. It argues that Christians are not under the Mosaic law but under the law of Christ. It asserts that the Bible does not divide the Mosaic law into civil, ceremonial and moral categories and that Christians are freed from the law through Jesus' fulfillment of it. Christians' obligation is to love God and their neighbor, fulfilling the whole law.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

4. John 20:1
The First Day Of The Week
• NAU John 20:1 Now on the first day of the
week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb,
while it was still dark, and saw the stone
already taken away from the tomb.
• Many teachers, including Darby, have taught
that every post-resurrection appearance of
Jesus Christ occurred on a Sunday. This is the
reason why the early church, although 100%
Jewish, gathered together on Sunday rather
than the Sabbath, celebrating the resurrection. 4
5. John 20:1
The First Day Of The Week
• NAU Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the
Lord's day…
• Many believe that John was referring to
Sunday and coined the phrase “the Lord's day”
to mean Sunday. However, I believe that John
is telling us that the ultimate “the Day of the
Lord” was revealed to the apostle John. As
recorded in the book of Revelation.

6. John 20:1, The Stone
Had Been Rolled Away

the first day of the
week Mary Magdalene
came early to the tomb,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone
already taken away
from the tomb.
7. John 20:1
The Stone Had Been Rolled Away
• NAU John 20:1 …Mary Magdalene … saw the
stone already taken away from the tomb.
• Mark 16:4 Looking up, they saw that the stone
had been rolled away
• NAU Matthew 28:2 And behold, a severe
earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the
Lord descended from heaven and came and
rolled away the stone and sat upon it.
8. John 20:1, Who Will Roll Away The Stone For Us
• NAU Mark 16:3
They were saying
to one another,
"Who will roll
away the stone
for us from the
entrance of the
tomb?"
9. John 20:1, Who Will Roll Away The Stone For Us
• I think they should've remembered the words
of our Lord and simply trusted Him.
10. John 20:1, The First Day Of The Week
• 1st NT use of…., Matthew 28:1 Now after the
Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first
day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the
other Mary came to look at the grave.
• Only 7 NAU uses and three are in John and
they are all in this chapter

11. John 20:6-8, A Miracle in the Grave
Clothes of Jesus
• A Miracle in the Grave Clothes of Jesus
• Esteemed Jewish scholar Simon Greenleaf, founder of Harvard Law School, meant to use his “laws of evidence” to
challenge the theory of the resurrection, and became a believer.
• Here is more evidence he wrestled with…
• John 20:6-8 - “Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes
lie…then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and HE SAW, and believed.”
• MARY THOUGHT THE BODY WAS STOLEN.
• Then very early on Sunday morning, Peter and John heard from Mary Magdalene that the body of Jesus, placed in the
sepulcher on Friday afternoon, was no longer there. Mary assumed the body was stolen, saying: “They have taken the
Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him.” Her conclusion was that enemies had taken it away.
• Instantly the two apostles ran to the sepulcher – John arrived first. And he, “stooping down and looking in, saw the linen
clothes lying, yet went not in.” But Peter “following him, went into the sepulcher, and sees the linen clothes lie, and the
napkin that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.”
• After which John also went in, “and he saw and believed.”
• WHAT DID JOHN SEE IN THE GRAVE CLOTHES THAT WE MISSED?
• When Peter and John entered the sepulcher, they did not see the body of Jesus; but they did see the grave clothes. And
they saw the clothes in a certain order.
• John covers the exact arrangement of the clothes. It is the sole purpose of nine verses of the Gospel history. Why so
great a detailed account? Because it was important!
11
12. NAU John 20:7 and the face-cloth which had
been on His head, not lying with the linen
wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself.
• Posted on Facebook; “Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection? I never noticed this...SOOOO GLAD
I TOOK THE TIME TO READ THIS!
• The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like
the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed separate
from the grave clothes.
• Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been
rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She
said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!' Peter and the other
disciple ran to the tomb to see.. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw
the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in.
• Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had
covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side.
• Was that important? Absolutely!
• Is it really significant? Yes!
• In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition
of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition.
• When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it..
• The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished
eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished. Now, if the master were done
eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and
toss it onto the table.
• The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done'.
• But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare
touch the table, 12
13. John 20:9
Ot Prophecy Of Christ’s Resurrection
• NAU John 20:9 For as yet they did not understand the
Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.
• NAU Psalm 16:10 For You will not abandon my soul to
Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo
decay.
• Acts 2:27-36 … 29 …David…. died and was buried, and his
tomb is with us to this day… 32 "This Jesus God raised up
again, to which we are all witnesses.
• Raymond Linquist said, “Easter is to our faith what water
is to the ocean, what stone is to the mountain, what
blood is to the body.”
14. John 20:17, "Stop clinging to Me’
• NAU John 20:17 Jesus said to her, "Stop
clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to
the Father; but go to My brethren and say to
them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father,
and My God and your God.'"
15. John 20:17, "Stop clinging to Me’
• Elmer towns says, “At least three explanations have been
proposed concerning Jesus’ apparent inconsistency. The first
suggests she must release Him because He had not yet
ascended into heaven. He had to go cleanse the heavenly
places with his blood (Heb. 9:12, 23)…. A second explanation
focuses on Mary's still limited understanding of the meaning
of the resurrection. Mary had only known Jesus in the flesh.
Her allegiance and love were in relation to the physical
Jesus… Perhaps what Jesus was trying to tell Mary was that
she must move beyond the physical and enter into a spiritual
relationship… A third possibility emphasizes the immediate
context of this statement… "touch," primarily means “to
fasten or cling to.” In this case, it was not necessarily a
prohibition against touching the body of Jesus, but rather a
request to "quit hanging on to me.” … both of them had
things to do…”
16. John 20:17, Two Trips To Heaven?
• Q. We read in John 20:17 that Mary was not to hold on
to Christ because he had not yet ascended to the Father.
Then the next thing we know he is visiting with the
Apostles allowing them to touch him… By these accounts
He must have ascended at least twice; once immediately
after his resurrection and again after 40 days. Is this
correct?
• A. I believe Jesus went into heaven to sprinkle His blood
on the altar there on Resurrection morning (John 20:17,
Hebrews 9:11-12). He was back by the afternoon to meet
two disciples on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-15) and
then met 10 of the disciples in the upper room that night
(John 20:19-23). Forty days later He made His official
ascension into heaven (Acts 1:1-11).

17. John 20:19, Forgive The Sins?
• NAU John 20:19 So when it was evening on
that day, the first day of the week, and when
the doors were shut where the disciples were,
for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in
their midst and said to them, "Peace be with
you.”
• Elmer Towns, on page 206, says, “The peace
here spoken of must be understood in terms
of the doctrine of reconciliation. Because of
what Jesus did on the cross, it is now possible
that people could receive peace from God
(Eph. 2:17) and have peace with God (Rom.
5:1)…”
18. John 20:19, Forgive The Sins?
• NAU Ephesians 2:15 by abolishing in His flesh the
enmity, which is the Law of commandments
contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might
make the two into one new man, thus establishing
peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one
body to God through the cross, by it having put to
death the enmity. 17 AND HE CAME AND PREACHED
PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE
TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR; 18 for through Him we
both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
• NAU Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ,
20. John 20:22, Receiving The Holy Spirit
• NAU John 20:22 And when He had said this, He
breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the
Holy Spirit.
• NAU John 14:17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom
the world cannot receive, because it does not see
Him or know Him, but you know Him because He
abides with you and will be in you.
• I believe that in John 20:22 records the apostles
received the Holy Spirit “with them,” in an
equipping way, but not yet “in them.” Acts 2
records their baptism of the Spirit, sealing of the
Spirit, and permanent indwelling.
21. John 20:22, Receiving The Holy Spirit
• Q. I have question involving the receiving the Holy Spirit. In John
20:22 it is said Jesus breathed on them and said “Receive the Holy
Spirit” How is this different from the coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts
2? Thank you for your insight.
• A. In John 20:22 the disciples became the first to receive the Holy
Spirit who Paul said would be given to all believers as a deposit
guaranteeing their inheritance (Ephesians 1:13-14). Earlier, John had
explained that this would begin to happen following the Lord’s death
and resurrection (John 7:37-39).
• In Acts 2 the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in power, enabling
them to speak to the crowd assembled there in a way that allowed
everyone to understand them in his own language.
• Some scholars call this an “epi” experience after the Greek word that
means “to come upon”. It’s a temporary manifestation of the Holy
Spirit that enables the recipient to perform a supernatural act, often
as a sign to others. Similar “epi” experiences are mentioned in Acts
10:44-46 and Acts 19:6.
• http://gracethrufaith.com/ask-a-bible-teacher/holy-spirit-question/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Gracethrufaith+%28GraceThruFaith%29
22. John 20:22, Receiving The Holy Spirit
• John 20:22… “Receive the Holy Spirit.
• The disciples here receive the Holy Spirit for
the equipping of ministry. This is not the
baptism of the Spirit, which will bring them
into the body of Christ, the church, the bride
of Christ. That will not happen until Acts
chapter 2. I often pray that God will fill me for
service, that I might do His will. Not meaning
to be “born again”, again. But to be equipped
by the Holy Spirit for the immediate ministry
at hand. Becoming a child of God only happens
once, filling for service is daily.
23. John 20:22, Receiving The Holy Spirit
• Q. …In John 20:22, Jesus blew unto his disciples with the Holy Spirit. In
Acts 2:4 his disciples received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Is this the
same thing, though it happens in different times and places?
• A. The disciples “received” the Holy Spirit on the night of the Lord’s
resurrection (John 20:22). Since then every believer has received the
Holy Spirit upon hearing the gospel and believing it. Ephesians 1:13-
14 and 2 Cor. 1:21-22both confirm this.
• At Pentecost the Holy Spirit “came upon” the disciples in power. The
difference is that the first instance demonstrates the Holy Spirit being
sealed within us, and the second one shows Him working miraculously
through us. All believers can experience both.
• That’s not to say that all believers will speak in different languages like
the disciples did (Acts 2:4), but all believers can experience the Holy
Spirit working miraculously through us. He gives spiritual gifts to each
of us as He determines for the good of the body (1 Cor. 12:7-11).

24. John 20:23, Abstain From Fornication
• John 20:23 "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins
have been forgiven …
• Joe's in the confessional…, "Father, I committed
adultery” "The priest starts thinking of the most
promiscuous women in town. "Was it with Marie
Brown?”, "I'd rather not say who it was.”, "Was it
with Betty Smith?”, "I'd rather not say," says Joe.
So the priest gives him absolution and Joe leaves.
Later, Joe's friend asks if he received absolution.
• "Yes, and two very good leads!”
• Mark 2:7 …who can forgive sins but God alone?”
• Acts 15:20 …abstain from…fornication… , Exodus 20:14, Hosea 4:13, Proverbs 6:32,
Joshua 24:19, 1 John 1:9,
25. John 20:23, Forgive The Sins?
• NAU John 20:23 "If you forgive the sins of any,
their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the
sins of any, they have been retained.
• NAU Mark 2:7 "Why does this man speak that
way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but
God alone?” [Luke 5:21-5:24]
• Elmer Towns, on page 206, says, “When they lead
others to Christ, they were remitting sin in that the
new convert was being forgiven in heaven. When
they failed to obey this commission, they were
retaining sin because others were not given the
opportunity to trust Christ as Savior…”
26. John 20:23, Forgive The Sins?
• John has been very thorough in his gospel to explain
how one can receive the forgiveness of sins and gain
eternal life;
• NAU John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to
them He gave the right to become children of God,
even to those who believe in His name,
• NAU John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who
hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has
eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but
has passed out of death into life.
• John 3:16, 8:24, 14:6, 20:31
• NAU Matthew 26:39 … Father, if it is possible, let
this cup pass from Me… 42 …My Father, if this

35. John 20:28
• Question: "Is Jesus God? Did Jesus ever claim to be God?"
• Answer: The Bible never records Jesus saying the precise words, “I am God.” That does not mean, however, that He did
not proclaim that He is God. Take for example Jesus’ words in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” We need only to
look at the Jews’ reaction to His statement to know He was claiming to be God. They tried to stone Him for this very
reason: “You, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33). The Jews understood exactly what Jesus was claiming—deity.
When Jesus declared, “I and the Father are one,” He was saying that He and the Father are of one nature and essence.
John 8:58 is another example. Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth … before Abraham was born, I am!” Jews who heard
this statement responded by taking up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, as the Mosaic Law commanded (Leviticus
24:16).
• John reiterates the concept of Jesus’ deity: “The Word [Jesus] was God” and “the Word became flesh” (John 1:1, 14).
These verses clearly indicate that Jesus is God in the flesh. Acts 20:28 tells us, “Be shepherds of the church of God, which
he bought with his own blood.” Who bought the church with His own blood? Jesus Christ. And this same verse declares
that God purchased His church with His own blood. Therefore, Jesus is God!
• Thomas the disciple declared concerning Jesus, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Jesus does not correct him. Titus
2:13 encourages us to wait for the coming of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ (see also 2 Peter 1:1). In Hebrews 1:8, the
Father declares of Jesus, “But about the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness
will be the scepter of your kingdom.’” The Father refers to Jesus as “O God,” indicating that Jesus is indeed God.
• In Revelation, an angel instructed the apostle John to only worship God (Revelation 19:10). Several times in Scripture
Jesus receives worship (Matthew 2:11; 14:33; 28:9, 17; Luke 24:52; John 9:38). He never rebukes people for worshiping
Him. If Jesus were not God, He would have told people to not worship Him, just as the angel in Revelation did. There are
many other passages of Scripture that argue for Jesus’ deity.
35
36. John 20:29
Are The Disciples Part Of the Church
• Q. When the Lord showed Thomas his wounds to prove that He had risen from
the dead, He said “Because you have seen me you have believed. Blessed are
they who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:24-29). As I
understand, this is why The Church has such a special relationship with God, we
believe by faith alone. It is clear that the disciples started the Church. But, since
it seems, that at least of part of the disciples’ faith is due to the fact that they
had seen the Lord, his miracles, and his resurrection, does that mean that they
(or anyone who saw Jesus during his ministry) are not part of the Church?
• A. I don’t believe the Lord’s words in John 20:29 were meant to disqualify any
of His followers from being part of the Church. I think He was criticizing Thomas
for his skepticism. A careful reading of the Gospel accounts shows that none of
the disciples truly understood His teaching on His resurrection until after the
fact. Mark 9:31-32 is one example;
• He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.
They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand
what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
• Therefore I believe the disciples and other followers of Jesus who were alive at
the time and believed in His death and resurrection can be considered as part of
the Church.

God can redeem them, break the shackles of Satan,
take them from hell to heaven, put them into His
kingdom, and give them eternal life, but just don’t
think He can get them through the next couple of
days. That is pretty ridiculous. We can believe God
for the greater gift and then stumble and not
believe Him for the lessor one.” 46
