Joel Allen reflects on his final radio presentation for the spring 2022 semester. He enjoyed taking the radio class in person and working on projects with his groupmates, who shared similar music tastes. His favorite project was a piece he did for Black History Month about Nipsey Hussle, which showed his progress in the class. He learned how to use audio editing software and became more comfortable speaking on air.

2. About You!
Artist/Bio Statement
The only art class I took before this was visual
arts during my sophomore year. It was online, so it was
mainly drawing. I’m glad I was able to take the radio in
person this school year.
My favorite piece I worked on this year was for
the Black History Month project. I chose to do Nipsey
Hussle because I like his music. My radio projects
reflect who I am because I listen to a lot of music. That
means I include music by my favorite artists into my
pieces. I also have an interest in cars, so I talked about
that a lot on-air. It was cool that my group members had
similar interests so it was easier to speak and carry on
conversations.
Sports was something that my group talked about
a lot and it was fun discussing basketball with them. I
am motivated to pass this class and end the semester
strongly. My radio content inspiration comes from the
music that I listen to and my hobbies outside of school.

3. Title: Edited Trump Speech Parody
Description of Project:

In this project, we had to edit a Trump speech in order to make it funny. The goal was to rearrange clips of his words so that he would
say something that he really didn’t.
Reflection on process and project:

This project was hard because I never worked with a program like Audacity before. I had to get help from Mr. Igaz and Franklin so that I
could learn how to move clips and cut them. Overall, this project was cool, but took a lot of time because I was new.

For the month of February, we had to choose an influential Black figure to do a radio piece on. I chose Nipsey Hussle because he was
always giving back to his community and his music had an inspiring message.
Reflection on process and project:

This project took me a long time to finish, but you can hear that it’s way better than my past ones. This piece really shows my progress in
this class. If you compare it side to side to other projects done earlier in the school year, then you can hear the difference. This is the
project that I’m proud of the most.

4. Radio General Reflection
My favorite part of this course was pre-recording in the studio with my group mates. We
always had a good time listening to music and talking about sports. There was a good chemistry
with our team since we all vibed with each other. We had similar music tastes so there was really
no problem. I’m more laid back and quiet, so it was cool that there were other people in my group
like Nathen and John, who lead conversations. I remember the first project we did, which was the
PSA. I was nervous recording my voice and hearing it back. Now, I am comfortable speaking on-
air and pre-recording. I learned how to operate the board and record myself in studio 3.
My favorite piece I worked on this year was for the Black History Month project. I chose to do
Nipsey Hussle because I like his music. I thought it was cool that we were assigned to do a Black
History Month project because I got to listen to my other classmates who did their pieces on
people I didn’t really know of. I also learned how to use audacity better during this project. Editing
takes a while for me to do, but I got it done.
