This document outlines the responsibilities of an engineering applications specialist role. The role involves installing, configuring, and maintaining various CAD software packages used by engineering departments. Additional responsibilities include participating in process improvements, designing new systems, collaborating across IT to ensure availability of engineering applications, monitoring help tickets, performing system administration tasks, implementing security policies, and conducting research to support hardware and software procurement. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills are required.

1.  Install,configure &maintainengineeringapplicationsusedbythe CAD& Engineering
departments,includingbutnotlimitedtoCatia,I-Deas,NX,AutoDeskproducts,Solidworks,
TeamcenterandothervariousCADpackagesfor the automotive industry.
 Participate inkeyprocessimprovementsastheyrelate tothe client/serverenvironment&the
CAD community.
 Participate indesignandreview of new systemsandapplicationsusedbythe CADcommunity.
 Collaborate withnetworkengineering,businessapplications,database administrationandother
IT departmentstoensure availability,reliabilityandscalabilityof engineeringapplications
systemstomeetthe demandsof the CAD community.
 Monitorhelpdeskdatabase forentriesonengineeringworkstationsandapplications.Prioritize
and respondtohelpdeskticketsasappropriate.
 EditUnix shell scripts.
 Performfile systemconfigurationandmanagement.
 Review&implementnewoperatingsystemreleases,maintainfixes&vendorsuppliedpatches
as requiredtosupportinternal &customerspecificengineeringapplicationsandenvironments.
 Performfile systembackups&recovery.
 Monitor& testclientperformance andprovide performance statistics&reports.
 Establish&implementpolicies,procedures&technologiestoensure securityof engineering
systems&applications.
 Recommend&execute modificationstoengineeringsystemsinordertoimprove efficiency,
reliability&performance.
 Conductresearchon hardware & software insupportof procurement&systemdevelopment
effortsforthe engineeringcommunity.
 Develop&maintainadministrative trainingmaterials&systemsdocumentation.
 Administrer,support&maintain PDMapplications.
 Provide guidance andmentorjuniormembersof the team.
 Communicate withotherITsupportdepartmentswithinthe organization,includingbutlimited
to NorthAmerica,Europe & othershare ServicesDepartments.
 Experience withinstalling,configuring&maintainingUNIX,Linux &Windowsoperatingsystems
and networks.
 General knowledge of UNIX&Linux commands
 Hands onhardware & software troubleshootingexperience.
