History In 1850 the street was named rue Balzac after the famous romantic novelist Honoré de Balzac. A short time later, the architect Paul Déchard built a private townhouse for the director of the Paris Opera, Mr. Rit, and this private residence is now Hotel Balzac. Following an extensive refurbishment Hotel Balzac re-opened on 18 July 2007 – the project involved an overall investment of over 11 million euro’s and took two years to complete.
