JIST 2018 - Unified Access to Heterogeneous Data Sources using an Ontology

  7. Our inspiration comes from OBDA But we divert from OBDA First, because we are dealing with no-SQL content. We want the system to support the specific query language and data format of the requester. And because our programmers are not familiar with SPARQL, we decided to align the query grammar to our core database.

  9. The ontology serves as middleman. Rely primarily on mappings between schema and ontology. As pointed by Oscar Corcho, getting people interested is easy, keeping them involved is a challenge. So we spent a lot of effort is to create an easy-to-use and efficient user interface with change traceability to facilitate the creation of mapping by data source owners and with the necessary toolset (minimalistic for now) to maintain the core ontology by domain experts. For example, we implemented a suggestion mechanism for building mappings based on both word similarities and history of matches.
  10. On the way back, we use the same mappings to transform and aggregate the content from their original formats to the requested destination format.
