Public School Music Program 4
Executive Summary
The Hamilton Organization has been committed to the advancement of at risk youth for
many years now. We believe that with your help we can do more than we at first thought
possible, reach more youth, and provide better opportunities.
Some low income school districts do have music programs in Dallas County, however
many students and their families are not able to spare any money on an instrument. This greatly
inhibits the opportunities for many students. Education is the great equalizer; and it has been
proven that low income neighborhoods, with low income school districts produce students who
are less likely to graduate, and more likely to be in the welfare system, or worse prison.
Our request of a donation of $100,000 will be used to provide students age 6 to 10, or 1st
grade through 4th grade students, who are interesting in joining the music program with a free
musical instrument. Arts in the school are important and often neglected when it comes to the
well-rounded education of a child. It has be.

Edison Dance Company, directed by Ms. Moenike Sims, is an organization, out of Edison High School, committed to excellence in education and personal development. Students gain knowledge in the historical and fundamental techniques of dance; dance etiquette, dance principles and business entertainment. We are currently preparing for our 2015 Dance Recital (costumes, accessories, makeup, props, food etc.) and educational activities, which will better prepare each student for college and to increase their knowledge in the arts. For students who actively engage in learning in the arts outperform those who do not (termed "arts poor students") on almost every measure! We depend entirely on corporate and private sponsorship for financial support. We have been fortunate in the past to have the support of different individuals and organizations and are hopeful that you will be one as well. NO DONATION IS TO SMALL!

6. JHROSEBand
The J.H. Rose Band Program includes curricular opportunities through the Concert Band,
Symphonic Band, Marching Rampants, and two Jazz Bands. Other opportunities through the
band program include Pep Band, Pit Orchestra, chamber ensembles, and the new iPad Band.
The central focus of the band program is the year-round Concert and Symphonic Bands. The
Concert Band is utilized as an ensemble to develop basic technique, increase individual
musicality, reinforce proper rehearsal habits, boost student confidence, instill independence,
and explore secondary instruments. Due to the work done through Concert Band, the
Symphonic Band is able to enjoy performing advanced literature with a high degree of
success (Grade VI Superior Ratings 10 of the past 12 years). Students from the Concert and
Symphonic Bands represent J.H. Rose every year at All-District and All-State Band events.
While the Marching Rampants are strictly an after-school group that only meets three days
per week, they are highly regarded as one of the strongest small marching bands in the state.
The Rose Band Program is a source of pride for the school and Greenville community.
The J.H. Rose Jazz Band-Blue performs more than 20 times per year as the more advanced of
the two full big bands at the school. Jazz Band has traditionally been a spring course that met
after school, however, two years ago it was moved to a yearlong “Early Bird” class that meets
for 45 minutes every day before school. With this move, the enrollment exploded and there
are now two bands (Blue and Green). In the first year of having two ensembles, both bands
received unanimous “Superior” ratings at the East Region Jazz MPA and J.H. Rose had eight
students represented at the Eastern All-Region Jazz Clinic, the most of any school in the region.
In addition to their performances for school concerts and events, the Jazz Band-Blue performs
frequently in the community for groups/events such as Pitt County Relay for Life, Carolina House
Assisted Living, March of Dimes, Service League of Greenville, and the Groundbreaking
Ceremony for the Vidant Children’s Hospital.
7. JHROSETheater
The Theatre Department at J.H. Rose High School offers a strong academic curriculum in a
number of theatre and technical theatre courses. In addition, the “Rampant Theatrical Company,”
comprised of Rose students, entertains the school and local community with three productions a
year (at least five performances per production). These productions include dramas, comedies,
and musicals; recent productions have included the musical “Beauty and the Beast” and a
quintet of short plays performed in a “theatre-in-the-round” setting. All performances are
enjoyed by a broad range of audience, including students, families, faculty, administrative
staff, and the local community.
In addition to their three productions per year, the students of the Rampant Theatrical
Company have provided such recent community services as visiting the local children’s hospital,
performing excerpts of plays for Barnes & Noble storytimes, providing structured backstage
tours for Girl Scout troops, and entertaining assisted living residents with a variety show.
For more information about how you can become involved in the J.H. Rose theatre community, please call
(252)321-3640 or email us at jhrfriendsoftheatre@gmail.com.
8. JHROSESmart BlockStudents Managing Academics, Relationships, and Time is a supervised 80 minute
block of time, during which students eat lunch for 40 minutes and choose an activity
for 40 minutes. This new system:
Allows students to make up absences and missed work, so they don’t fall behind
Provides an opportunity for every student to receive the academic support they need during the
school day from teachers, in the form of tutoring and review sessions
Provides time to access computers or work on projects, time to study, time to complete
homework or work ahead
Makes time for club meetings, weight room workouts, social and enhancement activities
Rewards students for making good decisions academically, behaviorally, and socially
SMART
