- The document discusses health hazards and safety measures among workers in cement industries in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. It identifies several physical hazards workers face such as excessive heat, poor ventilation, radiation, and noise. Workers are also exposed to cement dust which can cause respiratory issues.
- The study found that while safety regulations have been implemented, workers still face many occupational hazards that can negatively impact their health. It recommends cement industry management develop and strictly enforce safety frameworks, implement health promotion programs for workers, and conduct regular medical exams to reduce health issues.
Work place diseases and injuries are common prevalence in industries of Pakistan. The present study aimed at evaluating occupational health and safety (OH&S) conditions and risks posed to textile workers. Environmental and noise level monitoring at selected textile industry was carried out for three months. Hazard identification and risk evaluation was performed using OH&S audit checklist and questionnaire survey. Monitoring results showed relatively higher noise level in stitching unit. PM10 at ‘Grey’ inspection and ‘Cutting’ sections while temperature at ‘singeing’, ‘De-sizing’ and ‘stitching’ units exceeded the prescribed limits. Audiometric testing identified hearing losses among workers diagnosed with hearing disabilities. The frequency for testing hearing loss in left and right ears was set at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz and 4000 Hz. Significant risks of exposure to cotton dust, chemicals, increasing noise level and minor physical injuries at the work site were identified.
effects of poor plants management and operator’s behaviour on construction si...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
The construction work site is often a chaotic place with an incredible high amount of action taking place. Workers and machines move about in frenzy manner, with everyone focused on the task at hand. In such working environment, accidents can and do happen. This study seeks to evaluate the extent poor plant management and operators’ behavior, contribute to construction site accidents and incidents. The review of relevant literature provides the platform for the structured questionnaire survey, which was administered to site managers, supervisors and plant operators within the South-South Geopolitical zone of Nigeria. This was followed by interviews conducted with five (5) construction companies operating within Benin City in Edo State and Warri in Delta State. The findings from questionnaire survey indicated that inadequate plant maintenance, poor supervision, and untrained operators are major factors contributing to plants and equipment accidents. It was further revealed that alcohol and drug use among plant operators contribute to their unsafe behavior on sites. Results of the interviews conducted with the site managers and operators also revealed that there is a general lack of commitment and poor leadership among the management of contracting firms particularly the small and medium size contractors. The paper therefore, concludes that contracting firms whether large or small should demonstrate visible commitment towards the maintenance and training of plant operators. Regular maintenance of available plants, machineries and retraining of operators should be a core value to the contractors.
The Effects of Cement Dust on Haematological Parameters of Cement Workers in ...iosrjce
The effect of cement dust on exposed workers was conducted in Asaba Delta state Nigeria, to
delineate the occupational hazards posed by cement dust on haematological parameters. The assessment of
haematological parameters was performed in forty workers occupationally exposed to cement dust and forty
matched unexposed control. The accepted level of significance was p< 0.05. The results show that the
erythrocyte sedimentation count, haemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume were not significantly
different between the exposed and the control (p> 0.05). There was a significantly lower platelet count,
lymphocytes and total white blood cell count in the exposed workers relative to the control (p< 0.05). Apart from
the white blood cell count, the number of years of exposure did not significantly affect the other parameters.
The results from this study has shown that occupational exposure to cement dust has significant effects on some
haematological parameters while years of exposure was not a significant factor on the haematological
parameters of cement depot workers
Workers' health and safety is an important asset , it enhances the productivity, efficiency, quality of every industry if well maintained. Construction material producer are vital industries from where supplying the demand of emerging construction materials to infrastructure and habitat projects as per projects' need. These industries employing lot of workers but they are not being worry about health and safety. Different convention of ILO as well as WHO have emphasizes to respond the issues related workers health and safety. Nepal had not yet ratified ILO convention No. 155 on occupational safety and health. Therefore lot of death, fatalities are suffered due to health and safety. It is important asset of workers that must be taken seriously by all stake holders as well as the nation. To make civilize society, all should be aware about every one's health and safety that too, workers health of safety is very important issues in every industry.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND ERGONOMIC INTERVENTION IN INDIAN SMALL SCALE INDUSTRI...ijmech
The small scale industries (SSIs) play very important role in the Indian economy. SSIs contribute in terms
of industrial production, export, employment and creation of an entrepreneurial base for the country. In
most of the SSIs in India, either traditionally designed tools are used or manual work is performed. Long
hours work with traditionally designed tools and un-ergonomic work places can cause musculoskeletal
disorders (MSDs) and other occupational health problems among workers. Workers well-being is highly
associated with the productivity and cost benefits of small scale industries. This review paper aims to
identify various MSDs and occupational health problems among workers in SSIs. The effects of ergonomic
interventions for improved occupational healthas well as productivity enhancement and cost benefits of
SSIs are also reviewed in paper.

Health and Safety in the Construction Industry in Catanduanes, PhilippinesDr. Amarjeet Singh
The Island Province of Catanduanes is gaining grounds in the field of construction. The program of the current administration “Build, Build, Build” have taken the construction industry to full blast. Construction, both private and public are evident on every corners of the island. Occupational Safety and Health in construction is often neglected and disregarded. Construction is the one of the most dangerous sectors in health and safety. The government, thru the Department of Labor and Employment had already address the problem by providing safety and health training to the personnel of the construction firm as well as the industry as a whole. But the effort has been far from satisfactory, as construction accident continue to dominate the entire industry. The study aims to awareness of construction safety in Catanduanes. The study focuses on the awareness of workers in construction industry in Catanduanes on Occupational Safety and Health. From the series of interviews and interaction with the workers on site, and upon evaluation of their responses, the researcher finally come up with the conclusion that, the construction workers are aware of the safety and health in constructions but they do not adhere and follow it. Workers admittedly that the reason they are complaisant about following safety and health practices are discomfort, beliefs, and bad habits. The following recommendation were sought based on the results of the interview; 1. Workers must attend or be trained with safety and health. A training that would enable them to understand the safety and health issues and concerns, 2. Workers must be taught with correct attitude towards safety in workplace, 3. They must taught of right things contrary to their old beliefs, 4. Workers must developed good habit and positive outlook in terms of their safety and well-being.
