Jesus teaches a crowd from Simon's boat on the Lake of Gennesaret. When he finishes, he tells Simon to let down his fishing nets despite having caught nothing all night. Simon obeys and they catch so many fish the nets begin to break. Simon falls at Jesus's knees, recognizing his own sinfulness. Jesus tells Simon he will now catch men. Simon and his partners leave everything to follow Jesus. The passage illustrates three important characteristics of being a follower of Christ: obedience, humility, and a willingness to sacrifice one's livelihood and family.
