How does your media product
  represent social groups?
The opening of our film focuses mainly on 3
              representations:
             - Class and Status
             - Gender
             - Age
Class and Status
• Although this may not be evident from the first 2 minutes of our film class and status is
    represented in it.
• Jennifer wants to be Tiffany because she thinks that Tiffany is better than her in all ways – she
is prettier, richer, more popular etc, however it is not until the end that it becomes clear that
Tiffany may be all these things on the outside but on the inside she is a lot deeper and has
had a troubled life. Tiffany is jealous that at least she has a family that loves her as she was
domestically abused when she was younger which shows that even though her class and
status is higher, to her she would ditch it all to be with a family that loves her.
• Jen, and Tiffany’s clothes represent class and status as Jen stays in dull, dark and basic clothes
the whole way through whereas Tiffany varies her outfits at every opportunity she gets.
• Tiffany is also always with friends as she has such a high social status whereas Jen for the
majority of our film is on her own in her dark room as she has no friends to talk to or help
    her through her hard times.
Gender
We have used to ends of the spectrum when choosing how to portray our character. We chose a bubbly, outgoing girl
and a dull, reserved girl as our characters as we thought that this contrasted well. However we broke away from the
usual stereotype of a man stalking a girl as we felt that this had been done in films to many times.

We had to make sure that Jen
                                                                      looked as conventionally

not want it to be obvious she is a

Gender
When Tiffany has her hair down it
is very long although we showed
her with her hair up to represent
that she tries different things and
spends a long time getting ready.
Her makeup is subtle and natural
and emphasizes her best features. It looks like she has spent a lot of
                                                           time getting ready and picking

                                                           wear. Tiffany looks feminine and
                                                           girly so matches the stereotypes

    appearance.
Age
• We thought it would be better to use girls that are
teenagers rather than women as teenage girls are
stereotyped to get jealous easily so therefore this fitted
  well with our film.
• Teenage girls also tend to have body insecurities and low
self esteem which is what Jen starts off as having but then
progresses into something scarier and more serious.
• We have broken the stereotype again in the sense that
stalkers tend to be older than there victims whereas Jen
and Tiffany are the same age in our film.
• Age is a big representation throughout our film as Jen
wants to fit in with her age group and be popular like
  Tiffany is.
