EFFECTIVE LISTENING SKILLS

 The objective of this presentation is to show how important listening
skills are in todays world of fast communication. This study would
evaluate the facts that would support my statement.
 1. Listening is key to all effective communication
• “We have two ears and one mouth, using them in proportion is not a bad idea! To be a good
leader you have to be a great listener. Brilliant ideas can spring from the most unlikely places, so
you should always keep your ears open for some shrewd advice. This can mean following online
comments as closely as board meeting notes, or asking the frontline staff for their opinions as often
as the CEOs. Get out there, listen to people, draw people out and learn from them.” –Branson,
Richard
 2. Good listening skills have benefits in our professional lives
• training in good listening behavior, will lead to improvement in
social skills and assist you to grow as a good communicator.
 3. Good listening skills also have benefits in our personal lives
• Studies have shown that, whereas speaking raises blood pressure, listening
brings it down.
 Everyone likes to be near a person that is happy but also that
listens to them.

Even though individuals can respond differently, we can gain a better understanding of how our cognitive capacities and personal preferences affect our listening, we are likely to experience more barriers. it is important to have effective listening skills because listening is key to all effective communication and good listening skills have benefits in our professional and personal lives. "We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less." --Diogenes
  2. Listening is possessing the aptitude to precisely accept and understand messages in the communication method. Listening is key to all effective communication, without the capability to listen effectively messages are very easily misinterpreted – communication deteriorates and the sender of the message can easily become exasperated . Listening is so significant that many companies provide listening skills training for their employees. I do not think that this is a big surprise especially in Sales or Marketing, But this helps in all parts of business. If you fail to listen effectively you may miss something and cause a multi million dollar mistake.. Richard Branson frequently quotes listening as one of the main factors behind the success of Virgin. Effective listening is a skill that supports all positive interactions, spend some time thinking about and increasing your listening skills – they are the building blocks of being successful.
  3. Good Listening skills help to build trust, which enables you to communicate more effectively with your team and coworkers. Which helps you to do your job more effectively. “Effective listening is crucial for salespeople to succeed in today's personal selling environment, yet poor listening is still one of the most important factors contributing to a salesperson's failure” Empathic listening is a way of listening and reacting to another individual that expands joint understanding and confidence. Being empathetic to another member on your team or in your professional life, builds a bond. With that bond creates a focus with the listener.
  4. A greater number of friends and social networks - a greater number of friends is the cornerstone of expanding your opportunities in both personal and professional lives Improved self-esteem and confidence – This indeed speak for itself as a benefit. When you exude confidence both your network of friends and opportunities will expand. Everyone wants to be friends with a happy person. Higher grades at school and in academic work
  5. As you have seen I have shown that good listening skills can and will improve your life with confidence a larger personal and professional network that you can rely on and also a general better understanding of the needs and opportunities others offer you. I have found that the only time that Good listening becomes a negative thing is when allowed to bring forth negative personal experiences and pre-judgement comes into play instead of listening to the entire conversation.
