The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Thinking of getting a dog? Be aware that breeds like Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds can be loyal and dangerous. Proper training and socialization are crucial to preventing aggressive behaviors. Ensure safety by understanding their needs and always supervising interactions. Stay safe, and enjoy your furry friends!

BY JUSTIN MARTIN, MICELA SIMPLICIANO-MEDINA,
CHRISTIAN DAVIS, AND MARK MIJARES
2. WHO
NAME: JAYSON BLAIR
OCCUPATION: EX-NY TIMES
REPORTER
DOB: 1976 IN VIRGINIA
ETHNICITY: AFRICAN-AMERICAN
HAIR COLOR: BLACK
EYE COLOR: DARK BROWN
3. WHAT
CASE: JAYSON BLAIR WAS CHARGED IN THE ACT OF
PLAGIARISM AND FRAUDULENCE. THERE WERE
MANY ARTICLES FOUND IN HIS WRITING OVER A
FOUR YEAR SPAN THAT INCLUDED MANY PIECES
OF LYING, FRAUDULENCE AND PLAGIARISM. TO
BE MORE SPECIFIC, THEY FOUND MORE THAN 600
ARTICLES OR WRITINGS CREATED BY HIM FILLED
WITH FALSE INFORMATION.
4. WHERE
ARTICLES RANGING FROM FAMILIES OF SOLDIERS
IN IRAQ OR HOMES OF PEOPLE RANGING FROM
WEST VIRGINIA, TEXAS, A SOLDIERS FUNERAL
IN OHIO, AND MANY OTHER PLACES. HE
RECREATED THESE STORIES WITHOUT EXACTLY
BEING IN THESE AREAS.
5. WHY
HE WAS ASKED IN AN INTERVIEW WHY HE
PLAGIARIZED AND LIED ABOUT HIS STORIES
WHILE HE WAS A WORKER FOR ONE OF THE
GREATEST NEWSPAPERS. HE REPLIED TO THE
INTERVIEWER THAT IT WASN'T WHAT HE
INTENDED TO DO AND IT WASN'T WHAT HE
WANTED (SPEAKING OF MAKING THIS MOMENT AN
EMBARRASSING CHAPTER FOR THE NEW YORK
TIMES)
6. WHEN
ON MAY 1, 2003, JAYSON BLAIR RESIGNED FROM WORK AT
THE NEW YORK TIMES AFTER BEING CHARGED WITH
PLAGIARISM FOR WRITING A STORY ABOUT A FAMILY OF
AN AMERICAN SOLDIER IN IRAQ. INVESTIGATORS LOOKING
INTO THE CASE OF JAYSON BLAIR FOUND OUT THAT AT
LEAST 36 FAKE OR PLAGIARIZED STORIES BETWEEN
OCTOBER 2002 AND APRIL 2003.
7. HOW
JAYSON BLAIR RESIGNED FROM THE NY TIMES WHEN HE WAS
QUESTIONED WHETHER HIS STORIES/ARTICLES WERE TRUE
OR IF THEY WERE PLAGIARIZED AND FABRICATED. HE
ADMITTED ON AN INTERVIEW THAT WHAT HE DID WAS
WRONG, BUT NEVER GAVE A CLEAR EXPLANATION OF WHY
HE DID IT. HE ALSO RELEASED A BOOK CALLED "BURNING
DOWN MY MASTER'S HOUSE" EXPLAINING THAT HE KNOWS
WHAT HE DID WAS WRONG AND IN THE BOOK IT EXPLAINS
HIS SIDE OF THE STORY AND WHAT LED HIM TO DO THESE
THINGS AND BEING ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH IT.
8. CONSEQUENCES
JAYSON BLAIR DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PUNISHMENT IN THE
WAY OF THE DOLLAR BILL. HOWEVER, HE LOST SOMETHING
WHICH SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE IS GREATER THAN MONEY.
THAT MY FELLOW VIEWERS, IS WHAT WE CALL
CREDIBILITY OR TRUST. SEE, HE WROTE SO MANY LIES
AND FALSE INFORMATION THAT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT TO
BELIEVE FROM HIM, SUCH AS IF HE IS TRULY
REMORSEFUL ACCORDING TO HIS BOOK. CREDIBILITY
TAKES A LONGER TIME TO GAIN BACK THEN MONEY, YOU
CAN'T JUST WORK FOR IT LIKE MONEY. ONE MUST
ACTUALLY DESERVE IT OVER TIME OF PROVING ONE'S
SELF.
