Thank you for coming out tonight and welcome to the Golden Gate Triathlon 2015 Kick-off meeting. My name is Sam and I have the distinct honor as serving as president of Golden Gate for 2015. Exciting to see some familiar faces but even more exciting to see quite a few new ones.
Quick show of hands to the following questions:
How many non-members here tonight?
How many people who have joined GGTC in the last few months?
Great so we have a good mix of people here tonight.
The goal of tonight is to ensure that we answer these two questions. If for some reason we can’t accomplish this, this whole thing will be an
One of the greatest long standing tenets of the culture of the sport of triathlon is that it is a sport of inclusion and self improvement and it has never only been about celebrating the best the sport has to offer but also the achievements of the everyday athlete as well.
utter failure. So no pressure whatsoever.
Like most organizations we have a mission statement. Bottom line is that we are an all volunteer group of triathlete who love the sport, the community and love seeing people succeed in reaching there goals.
One of the greatest long standing tenets of the culture of the sport of triathlon is that it is a sport of inclusion and self improvement and it has never only been about celebrating the best the sport has to offer but also the acheivements of the everyday athlete as well.
So on the previous slide we showed you our official, official mission statement. Personally, I am more into brevity and prefer this mission. However, there are some amongst us, who will remain nameless, who have opted for a slightly different translation of this mantra.
As I mentioned earlier we are an all volunteer organization. As such we have a number of former board members that I would like to thank for their time and energy in 2014.
They include:
Bonnie
Carolyn
Chris
Erika
Mark
Sara
Tracy
While this was officially announced at our season kick-off party a couple of weeks ago. It’s okay if you don’t remember… there was a fair bit of drinking going on.
Both Danny and Krista are great examples of two individuals who live up to live the culture and values of the sport of triathlon and the Mission of GGTC. In 2015 they were no doubt amongst some of our best representatives.
Though after reviewing this picture I want to know who is photo-bombing Danny…
So we are going to take a couple of minutes to hand out some stuff to a few lucky raffle winners. Hopefully the raffle tickets are around here somewhere…
Throughout the year we have a good mix of social and training opportunities that will help you find and locate some new friends and training partners. This list are just some examples of some of the types of events that you can expect from GGTC in 2015.
And while you will hear more about some of these items later we have a few new additions to membership in 2015. They include:
A Monday night cycling class at Shift SF (sold out)
Wednesday morning strength and conditioning
Wednesday night track (starting in feb)
Friday night swim @ St I’s
On top of those new additions we have a host of monthly happy hours, member meetings, volunteer led training events and volunteer opportunities.
On top of a myriad of events for members we work hard with bay area companies and races to provide you with discounted race entries and discounts on products and services.
First and foremost we have access to some great coaches for all levels including:
Duane & Dorette Franks @ Trifiniti
Neil Fraser @ Trimore Fitness
Mike Portman @ Portman Coaching
Nate Helming @ Helming Athletics
John Dahlz @ Dahlz High Performance Coaching
We have also built some long term relationships with some premiere providers in the area including:
Pfits – Pedro, Slowtwicthes top rate bike fitter in all of these United States.
Shift – SF Cycling Studio
SOS Hydration
Chiro-Medical Group
iRT Race Wheels
Pacific Bicycles
A Runners Mind
And of course Sports Basement – who was dumb enough to give me a microphone
On the right is a quick list of races we have discounts with.
If you add up the race discounts and store discounts alone you can easily earn back you membership dues in just a few quick visits to SB or race sign-ups.
Now it is time to introduce y’all to the 2015 Golden Gate Triathlon Club Board of Directors. My hope is that each one will introduce themselves, their role, and what they hope to accomplish in 2015…
As a member of Golden Gate Triathlon Club we provide access to some great programs for all levels of athletes. From beginners to the experienced athlete we have something to help you improve on your performance. Some of these programs are included in your membership dues while others come with an additional fee.
Now I would like to turn the microphone over to the manager of the GGTC Ambassador Team to provide some details on who they are and how they contribute to the GGTC family.
Before we talk about our specific training programs I would like to offer the beneficiary of GGTC’s non-profit partnership an opportunity to tell you about themselves. For those who don’t know a part of the fees associated with our training programs are donated to charity. For 2015 and 2016 this beneficiary is the San Francisco Senior Center.
Late last year we piloted a program with one of San Francisco’s premier cycling studio’s SHIFT. We were only slated to have the main studio on Monday night but due to overwhelming demand we were able to added a second class in their other room.
So this is a 13 week once a week training opportunity coached by two of the Bay Area’s best triathletes/coaches. They are former professional triathlete Tyler Stewart and Elite Triathlon Coach Chris Hauth. Our aim is to make you a better cyclist by focusing on strength, stamina and technique. And you’ll definitely have a lot of fun doing it!
Next up I am going to turn the microphone over to Nate Helming to discuss our new Strength and Conditioning Program. Nate…
The next two slides belong to the newest addition to our coaching roster John Dahlz. For those who don’t know John he is the former head coach of Cal’s Triathlon Team (4 time National Champs) and a local area professional triathlete. We are honored to have John heading up both our Track and Swimming efforts in 2015
One of the great things about GGTC is we have a professional coached program geared towards people who are still learning about the sport. This is our Olympic Distance Training Program Coached by Neil Fraser, who I think is in his 11th year running this program. Neil
For those looking to extend past the Olympic Distance we also have a half Ironman Program which is coached by Mike Portman of Portman Coaching. Whether this is your first attempt at going long or you are looking to bring your performance to the next level, Mike can help you get there… Mike.
So that is all that we have tonight. I would like to close by thanking everyone for coming out tonight. I hope we have answered all of your questions… if we haven’t feel free to ask questions. Thank you and have a great night!
