Jane Goodall was a British primatologist who studied chimpanzees in Tanzania beginning in 1960. She observed that chimpanzees make and use tools, communicate with each other through sounds, and have complex social behaviors including dominance hierarchies. Goodall received her PhD without a bachelor's degree and wrote books about her research with chimpanzees to educate others about proper treatment of animals. She is considered one of the most important scientists to study animal behavior.
