Jan Werich was a Czech actor and playwright born in 1905. He began his theater career in 1927 performing with his friend Jiří Voskovec at the Osvobozené Divadlo theater until 1938. Some of his most popular films with Voskovec included Hej Rup and Svět patří nám. He emigrated to the U.S.A before World War II and returned in 1945. His last film was Pan Tau in 1969. Jan Werich died in 1980.
