1) Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Righteousness comes from obedience to God's word, not human anger.
2) Merely listening to God's word without obeying it is pointless. One must intensely study and obey the word to receive freedom and blessing.
3) True religion is shown through deeds of mercy, not just words, such as caring for widows and orphans. Hypocrisy of loose words without righteous deeds deceives oneself.
Doing The Word James 1:19-27 Adapted from a Tim Bond sermon http://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/doing-the-word-tim-bond-sermon-on-bible-influence-48605.asp
This document is a sermon outline from the Jackson Street Church of Christ encouraging believers not to lose confidence in God. It discusses four reasons from Hebrews 10:35-39 why Christians should hold onto their faith: 1) There is nothing else that can save them. 2) No wrath is greater than God's. 3) They should remember God's past faithfulness. 4) No rewards are greater than what God promises. The sermon exhorts believers to have enduring faith in God in spite of hardships by focusing on the eternal rewards that come from trusting in him.
Jesus begins his parabolic discourse at the beginning of chapter 13. The first parable he tells is the Parable of the Sower. As we read, we learn that the focus of this parable is less about the Sower and more about the soils in which the seed is sown. As we learned last week about the purpose of parables, we should remember that the parables separate people. This separation is described in the Parable of the Sower making this parable the key, to understanding the rest of the parables. Jesus will explain to a crowd of thousands, that His word, the message of the kingdom, will be received differently by each individual. We learn that there truly is a difference between hearing and listening and that our reception of God’s word will depend on the condition of our hearts.
The document discusses having faith during difficult times based on the biblical story of Jesus calming the storm. It notes that storms can come unexpectedly in life, like problems rising up suddenly. The disciples were afraid during the storm in the story, but Jesus remained calm and asleep, depicting how Christians should react to problems - making efforts to solve them but also praying and having faith that God is in control. Having faith means being sure of what we hope for even if we can't see it and knowing that no storm is too strong for God to handle. The document encourages having faith like Jesus during life's storms rather than giving in to fear.
1. The document discusses the wrath of God as being real, just, and coming upon those who reject God and live sinful lives. 2. It describes how God's wrath has been revealed through the degradation of mankind, hell, the gospel message, and biblical prophecy. 3. It explains that while God's wrath is real, His wrath against believers has been satisfied by Jesus Christ, who took God's wrath upon himself on the cross to reconcile sinners to God.

The document discusses the importance of giving thanks according to both scripture and scientific research. It provides numerous bible verses that encourage thankfulness and giving thanks to God. It also summarizes research showing that grateful people are happier and healthier, with higher levels of positive emotions, life satisfaction, and lower stress. While most thanks should go to God, the document also notes that people should be thankful for others who help them. Overall, the document promotes developing an attitude of gratitude through both religious scripture and scientific findings on the benefits of thankfulness.
The document summarizes the biblical story of Gideon found in Judges 6-7. It discusses how Gideon and the Israelites lived in fear of the Midianites. Though God called Gideon to lead the Israelites in battle, Gideon doubted himself because of his fears. God proved his power to Gideon through signs and ultimately helped Gideon defeat the Midianites with only 300 men. The story shows that God's power, not human strength or talents, is what matters. God can work through ordinary people like "jars of clay."

What is the status of our connection to God? Does your wireless gadgets enable you to connect with God? It is very important to know the essentials of connecting to our great God. Find it here in this presentation the three essentials of sustaining our connection with God.
Being transformed in your mind (Romans12) means rethinking your self image. Those who have placed their trust in Jesus are in Christ. This is a fundamental change. Our identity is now who we are in Christ. The New testament has many descriptions of who we are in Christ and we need to live on the basis of these statements and not by what the world tells us were are or should be.
1) The world faces many problems like war, poverty, and injustice that human efforts alone cannot solve. God has a plan to restore order and humanity's relationship with Him.
2) God created humans in His image to be good and to have fellowship with Him, but sin disrupted this. However, God continued to offer grace and protection to humans.
3) God sent Jesus Christ to overcome sin and evil. By accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, individuals can experience God's love and allow His plan of restoration to begin in their lives.
How is the tongue associated with behavior? Does behavior control the tongue or is it the other way around? What examples does James give us of the power of the tongue? Explain each. How can our tongue defile our entire body? Give some examples of how you have witnessed the devastating power of the tongue in your life, within your family, within the church and in our nation. Is there hope for taming the tongue? Explain how it’s possible and how you control yours?
Aram murdered a man and buried his body in a river, but a strong wind uncovered the corpse. Overcome with guilt, Aram wept at the scene, realizing his secret could no longer be kept even if buried deep under land or sea. Secret sins tend to lead to more sins and can become habitual or addictive, potentially causing people to be lost. While secret sins should be confessed only to God, open confession is required for obvious sins. Secret sins can endanger spiritual growth if not controlled.
While shepherds watched their flocks at night, an angel appeared to them and announced the birth of Jesus. The angel was accompanied by a multitude of other angels praising God. The shepherds went to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus lying in a manger just as the angel had said. Upon seeing the baby, the shepherds spread the word of his birth to all they met.

This document provides commentary on the Parable of the Sower and Seed from the Bible. It summarizes the parable, in which a sower scatters seed and it falls in different types of ground, some growing and some not. It explains that the seed represents the word of God and the different types of ground represent different types of people who hear the word. It then provides verse-by-verse commentary on the parable as told in Matthew 13.
The document provides guidance on Christian preparation for marriage and married life. It discusses choosing a believer as a spouse, priorities like character over external beauty, and blessings of marriage according to Psalm 128. It outlines responsibilities for husbands like being the family priest and leader, and responsibilities for wives like being a helper and administrator. It also discusses communication, conflict resolution, parenting, and maintaining a redemptive marriage.
Before Christ came into our lives, we were children of darkness. But even as God is light, and Christ is the light of the world, so also are we are children of light. As such, we ought to walk in the light and behave in a manner consistent with our calling. Wake up oh Christian and let your light shine.
Jesus comforted his disciples because (1) he was leaving them and they couldn't follow, (2) one would betray him, and (3) he predicted Peter's denial. He told them not to worry because he was preparing a place for them in heaven and would return to bring them there. Jesus proclaimed that he is the way, the truth, and the life - the only way to get to heaven and have eternal life with God.
What Is Real, True, Genuine Repentance?Don McClain
“What Is Real, True, Genuine Repentance?" - [According To God’s Word — Matthew 21:28-32] - Repentance is a command of God / Repentance is something God wills that every one of us would do - Sadly, very few are willing to actually, truly REPENT! Repentance has often been referenced as “the hardest command!” Why? What is so difficult about repentance? In this study we examine what repentance IS NOT - then five characteristics of genuine repentance.

I used this as an interactive lesson during a children's Sunday service. After slide 6 I asked them for as many children in the Bible as they could think of, and listed them on a flip chart. We went through the 12 on slide 7, letting them choose the order. They are set as hyperlinks in the original file, but don't work that way in SlideShare. Clicking on the character's title brought it back to the original list so they could pick another story. Stories were very abbreviated, intentionally, so they could look at the role model lesson the child is for them. The emphasis is for them to be role models (Be an example!) of their faith, as well as to trust God to help them.
The parable of the sower describes seed representing God's word being sown into different types of soil representing human hearts. Some seed falls on the path and is eaten by birds, representing those who do not understand or accept God's word. Some falls on rocky ground with little soil, representing those who initially receive God's word with joy but fall away when faced with difficulties. Other seed falls among thorns, representing those who hear God's word but are choked by worldly cares and riches. The seed that falls on good soil represents those who hear and understand God's word and through patience and perseverance produce a abundant spiritual fruit.

It encourages pastors to invest in discipling relationships above all other activities.

Jesus expected a process of change, growth and development in the life of his followers. Many writers suggest a three or four stage process. A four stage process is outlined here, along with personal challenge / application.
Disciple-Making, according to Greg Ogden requires at least tow major factors: Internalisation and Multiplication. This presentation adds to his ideas with some scripture and illustrative ideas challenging followers of Christ to become, and make, disciples in his image.
Name someone...who has impacted your life.
Disiple-making is a deliberate act requiring discipline and dedication
“Discipleship is all about living the life together rather than just one structured meeting each week” Chan
This document provides a summary of the New Testament story in four hours. It is divided into three time periods in the life of Jesus: 1) His first 30 years before ministry, 2) His three years of public ministry in and around Israel, and 3) His crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The first section focuses on Jesus' birth and early life, including key details from the nativity story presented in the gospels of Matthew and Luke.
This document provides an overview and summary of key events and people in the Old Testament from Eden to Israel entering the Promised Land. It discusses 4 main moves: 1) From Eden to Israel; 2) From Israel to Egypt; 3) 40 years in the wilderness; 4) Entering the Promised Land. Key points covered include Creation, the Fall, Noah, Abraham, Joseph in Egypt, Moses and the Exodus, receiving the 10 Commandments at Mt. Sinai, and Joshua leading the people into Canaan.
The document provides guidance on discipleship and disciple-making. It begins by defining a disciple as someone who is following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and committed to Jesus' mission. It then discusses the importance of discipleship, noting that disciples are meant to be world-changers and that one-on-one discipleship is the most effective method, replicating itself over time. The document concludes by outlining models of discipleship, including sharing the gospel, connecting with others, helping them minister, and ultimately making them disciples who can repeat the process.
The document summarizes the biblical story of Babel in Genesis 11, where all humanity spoke one language but decided to build a tower to make themselves famous. God responded by confusing their languages, scattering them across the earth and enforcing his command to spread out. It also discusses the origins of different ethnicities and races. The next section introduces Abraham, called at age 75 to leave Haran and given promises by God of land, descendants and blessing through his offspring. The covenant with Abraham sets the agenda for the rest of the Bible by being fulfilled through Christ.
The document outlines key events in the biblical story of humanity's origins and early history:
1. God creates the universe and places the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden.
2. Adam and Eve rebel against God and are banished from the Garden, introducing sin and brokenness into the world.
3. As sin and death spread, God brings a flood to wipe out most of humanity while saving Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal on an ark.
This document provides an overview of the upcoming "The Old Testament Story" learning and development series starting on September 2nd. It outlines the 4 main movements of the Old Testament story from Eden to Israel, Israel in the promised land, Israel to exile and return. Key details include the main people, events, and sections covered within the 11 most important books that make up 95% of the Old Testament narrative.

A375 Example Taste the taste of the Lord, the taste of the Lord The taste of...franktsao4
It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23Anyone who listens to the word but
does not do what it says is like someone
who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and,
after looking at himself, goes away and
immediately forgets what he looks like.25
But whoever looks intently into the perfect

doing it—they will be blessed in what they
do.

this: to look after orphans and widows
in their distress and to keep oneself
from being polluted by the world.

22. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and
so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23Anyone who listens to the word but
does not do what it says is like someone
who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and,
after looking at himself, goes away and
immediately forgets what he looks like.
25 But whoever looks intently into the
perfect law that gives freedom, and
continues in it—not forgetting what they
have heard, but doing it—they will be
blessed in what they do.

is this: to look after orphans and
