Fly Like A Girl Summer Camp
Aerial survey of the
island of St Maarten
We have executed our Fly Like A Girl Summer Camp which we
partnered with GeoTechVision and Marlie Technology Park on
August 12th to 16th 2019. We engaged 5 girls aged 12-16 in
our drone camp. The girls were taught about the different type
of drones, what is GIS and how drones can be used to solve
real world problems. It was our pilot project so we had a few
issues including getting full sponsorship to do other activities
but we still got most of what we had planned done. We also had
4 volunteers who assisted with the camp and supervising the
students. The most important activity for the camp was the
actual flying of mini drones by the students. They learnt the
basics such as pre and post flight safety checks, take off and
landing of the drones and executing manual flight. We also had
some activities on our Geo Tablets which allowed the students
to run programming of flight plans for drones and other robotics
using fun games on Tello Edu web application,

Flying Labs Day on the 25th September
Jamaica Flying Labs engaged in a
major World Bank project conducting
an aerial survey of the island of St
Maarten and processing of the data.
This was conducted between the 15th
of May to 15th of June in both St
Maarten and Jamaica.
One of our team members
participated in the She Maps training
in June which they completed and
received a community instructor
certification.
We also assisted the WeRobotics
team in the promotion of the Unusual
Solvers Competition which we
engaged different groups in Jamaica
to try and participate. Unfortunately
we did not get positive responses and
as such we are working on our
networking to get more promotion
locally of Jamaica Flying Labs with
the intention of getting a more
positive response in future activities.
