Jonas’ Adversity
Jonas is chosen to be the
new Receiver of Memory
for his community. After
his training begins, Jonas’
world changed. His new
knowledge of emotions,
colors, and suffering made
him think about the world
outside of the community.
How Jonas Persevered
To overcome his adversity,
Jonas decided to leave the
community and he took
the newchild Gabriel with
him.
Jimmy Valentine's Adversity
Jimmy Valentine returned
to society after he was
released from prison, for
cracking safes. After
meeting Annabel Adams,
Jimmy decides he wants to
change.
How Jimmy Persevered
To overcome his adversity
Jimmy stopped cracking
safes. He also changed his
name to Ralph D. Spencer,
opened a shoe store and
became engaged with
Annabel.
Victor’s Adversity
Victor has a crush on a
girl named Teresa. He
struggles to overcome his
shyness to make a good
impression.
How Victor Persevered
In French class, Victor Hi Victor.
pretended he knew how to Can you
                              tutor me?
speak French. He didn’t
fool the teacher but, this
impressed Theresa and she
asked for tutoring lessons.
Reflections
The stories are all about how
main characters overcame
their misfortunes. For Victor
it was to make a good
impression. For Jimmy it was
to become a better person.
For Jonas it was to find a
better society.
Their perseverance showed
to keep on trying no matter
how hard the circumstances
are.
