7. What the future holds for EMI As most people are aware, major record labels are loosing out on a lot of money which is being lost due to online sites where you can download nearly any song in the world for free, this considered illegal and breaches the distribution laws for the labels. Since people don’t get caught most of the time. Illegal downloading is seen as the new way to get music as it’s 100% free. The majors will eventually have to find a way to crack down on this and start to make people more aware that it is illegal to get the music this way. If illegal music downloads become even more popular then eventually the majors may start to make a loss and not a profit therefore meaning big music companies like EMI could become bankrupt. If EMI was to try do something about this problem they could with help from police start to shutdown sites which are fueling the web with illegal downloads. They could also make people more aware more of the consequences of illegally downloading. They could caught by a police scan only if they are suspected by being signed up to a website which has been caught distributing music form the label.
