Post-9/11 veterans face many challenges including high rates of PTSD, traumatic brain injury, substance abuse issues, homelessness, and suicide. Over 2 million service members have been deployed in support of the Global War on Terror, many on multiple tours of duty, and they return home facing difficulties transitioning to civilian life. Rates of PTSD are as high as 35% among veterans, and traumatic brain injuries caused by explosions are also prevalent. Homelessness among veterans is a major problem, with over 75,000 veterans experiencing homelessness on any given night.
