Durga puja is one of the major festivals in India that celebrates the victory of goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. It is a festival observed for nine days during autumn and involves elaborate rituals like prayers, offerings, and fasting over the course of the festival. The key days of worship during Durga puja include Ashtami for the main prayers, Navami for offerings to the goddess, and Dashami where the statues are immersed in water or sometimes burned in effigy. The festival sees huge celebrations across communities with colorful decorations, lights, and crowds of people in traditional attire visiting the large pandals set up to house the goddess idols.
