Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey and its economic, cultural, and historical heart, with a population of 13.9 million. Several important mosques were designed by the famous architect Mimar Sinan, including the Süleymaniye Mosque. The Hagia Sophia was originally built as a church in the 6th century and is now a museum. Ülker Sports Arena, completed in 2012, is home to Fenerbahçe's basketball and volleyball teams. Istanbul has more monuments, stadiums, and larger buildings than the smaller city of Villaviciosa.
