Infraworks have now started rolling out
the new locking mechanism for Hi-Rail
during travel on roads. This system
replaces the need to shackle the Hi-Rail for
travel.
With the new locking system, when the
dead man switch is pressed continually,
locks will release, during this operation you
must raise the Hi-Rail always before
lowering the Hi-Rail. Failure to adopt this
method may damage the locking system

As not all vehicles have been fitted with
this new system, it is important to identify
what locking system is on the truck during
your pre-start and use the appropriate
process
We are finding that our operators are
continually neglecting to un-shackle the Hi
Rail equipment resulting in costly damage,
impacting the business and the client
requirements
Most of our Hi Rail vehicles still have the
shackling system in place for Hi-Rail.
Failure to un-shackle the hi-rail before
deploying can result in significant damage,
please see recent incident causing shackle
