Tavon is preparing to host a foreign exchange student from Israel for the spring semester. They have put together a short presentation to provide background information on Israel. The presentation covers Israel's main religions of Judaism and Islam, its climate which is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters, and its school system which requires three years of preschool emphasizing social skills, culture, and literacy.
Can you imagine a world without human beings? Who would have utilised resources and created the social and cultural environment? The people are
important to develop the economy and society.
The people make and use resources and are
themselves resources with varying quality. Coal is but a piece of rock, until people were able to invent technology to obtain it and make it a ‘resource’. Natural events like a river flood or Tsunami becomes a ‘disaster’ only when they affect a crowded village or a town. Hence, population is the pivotal element in social studies. It is the point of referance from which all other elements are observed and from which they derive significance and meaning.
‘Resources’, ‘calamities’ and ‘disasters’ are all meaningful only in relation to human beings. Their numbers, distribution, growth and characteristics or qualities provide the basic background for understanding and appreciating all aspects of the environment.
I talk about Kiribati's system of government from executive to legislative and how elections work on the small but vast series of islands of this little-known nation.

Discussion Questions
1. How does a medical chart help diagnosis and treatment?
2. How might incomplete information on a medical chart cause a misdiagnosis of the problem or condition or delay treatment that could be life-saving? In Nick's case, his friends could provide information on what he had been doing prior to his visit to the Emergency Room. What if Nick's friends could not provide complete information? How would this affect his care?

People of Egyptian Heritage
Afaf Ibrahim Meleis and Mahmoud Hanafi Meleis
Overview, Inhabited Localities,
and Topography
Overview
Egypt, the country of origin of Egyptian Americans,
has a landmass of 386,900 square miles (about one and
a half times the size of Texas) and a population of over
82 million people, giving it a population density of
over 177 per square mile. More than 95 percent of the
land is barren desert, resulting in 90 percent of the
population’s living on 3 percent of the total land area,
in the Nile Valley and Delta (CIA World Factbook,
2011). The Nile has been and still is significant in shap-
ing life and living patterns in Egypt. The average annual
rate of population increase is 1.75 percent, with a birth
rate of 22.94 per 1000 and an infant mortality rate
of 25.2 per 1000 (CIA World Factbook, 2011). The
capital, Cairo, has almost 11 million people, followed
in population by Alexandria with 4.3 million people
(CIA World Factbook, 2011).
Egypt is bordered by Libya on the west, Sudan on
the south, the Mediterranean Sea on the north, and
the Red Sea and Israel on the east. The eastern re-
gion, across the Suez Canal, is Sinai. Egypt’s climate
is hot and dry most of the year. The average daily
temperature on the Mediterranean coast is 68°F with
a maximum of 88°F, and in Aswan, average temper-
atures are 80°F but can reach 120°F with little or no
humidity. The Mediterranean region receives most of
the country’s annual rainfall (7.5 in.). The northern
summers are balmy with moderate temperatures and
80 percent humidity. Between March and April,
khamsi winds blow in from the Western Desert at up
to 93 miles per hour. Except for a few hills outside
Cairo, Egypt has.

As a reaction of a radical UN proposal about youth and sex, a group of young people present a document that emphasizes human dignity and the right of parents to act as the primary educators of their children. Everybody is urgently asked to read this document, and if one agrees, to sign it.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States. The current President of AIPAC is Lillian Pinkus.
One of several pro-Israel lobbying organizations in the U.S., AIPAC has more than 100,000 members, seventeen regional offices, and "a vast pool of donors."
It has been called "the most important organization affecting America's relationship with Israel," and one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States.
The group does not raise funds for political candidates itself, but helps organize to channel money to candidates.
Its critics have stated it acts as an agent of the Israeli government with a "stranglehold" on the United States Congress with its power and influence.
The group has been accused of being strongly allied with the Likud party of Israel, and the Republican Party in the US, but an AIPAC spokesman has called this a "malicious mischaracterization."
AIPAC, on the other hand, describes itself as a bipartisan organization, and bills it lobbies for in Congress are always jointly sponsored by both a Democrat and Republican.
AIPAC's supporters claim its bipartisan nature can be seen at its yearly policy conference, which in 2016 included both parties' front-runners (Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump), as well as high ranking Democrats, including Vice President Joe Biden, and high-ranking Republicans, including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Israel is a country of minorities—literally built and founded by immigrants from a multitude of ethnicities.
Judaism is the largest religion but its adherents hail from all across the globe, from Asia to South America. Hence, it
is difficult to talk about Israel without mentioning its core value of immigration by Jews from all corners of the earth,
or ‘Aliyah,’ (“ascension” to Israel).
Jews comprise approximately 75 percent of Israel’s total population. Israel’s Basic Law on Human Dignity and Liberty ensures full social and political equality, regardless of ethnicity, religion or gender to all its citizens.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
