ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management SystemAminath Zaady
ISO 14001 is an Environmental Management System that is designed to help organizations manage environmental issues such as pollution, resource conservation, and waste management.
The document discusses safety investigations at oil and gas companies. It defines safety as including employee safety, vehicle safety, contractor safety, pipeline safety, and public safety as well as environmental protection and safe operations. Investigations are conducted to determine what happened, why it happened, and how to prevent recurrences. The importance of learning from investigations through a lessons learned program is emphasized so that beneficial information can be shared company-wide and continuous safety improvements can be made.
ISO14001 is an international standard for environmental management systems. It defines the components and requirements of an EMS, including an environmental policy, compliance procedures, improvement programs, and reviews. Certification demonstrates responsible environmental practices, enhances reputation, and is becoming a prerequisite in many industries. The standard helps organizations protect the environment, prevent pollution, and improve performance through planning, implementation, reviews, and continual improvement.
OHSAS 18001 has been the recognized occupational health and safety management system standard since 1999. A new ISO standard, ISO 45001, is being developed to replace OHSAS 18001. ISO 45001 has a stronger focus on organizational context, leadership roles, and risk-based approaches. It also uses a common structure and terms aligned with other ISO standards. While the overall aim of reducing risks remains the same, ISO 45001 includes changes like greater emphasis on top management responsibility and identifying and controlling risks rather than just hazards. Organizations should prepare to transition to meeting the requirements of ISO 45001 when it is published in October 2016.
Steps To Environmental Management (STEM) is a step-by-step guide to implementing an environmental management system for small and medium-sized enterprises. It provides a framework in 3 levels - Blue, Silver, and Gold - that is compatible with ISO14001 and BS8555 standards. The steps include establishing management commitment, conducting a baseline assessment, identifying significant environmental impacts, drafting an environmental policy, collecting data, and monitoring progress. STEM uses a business's carbon footprint as a key performance indicator and provides support from sustainable business advisors to help companies reduce their environmental impact.
ISO 14000 is a set of voluntary international standards being developed by the International Organization for Standardization to establish a system for companies to effectively manage environmental compliance; it focuses on developing environmental management systems and procedures within companies rather than establishing pollution regulations. While its impact remains uncertain, ISO 14000 aims to promote sound environmental management similarly to how ISO 9000 established international quality management standards for businesses.

ISO 14000 is a series of international standards for environmental management systems (EMS). ISO 14001 specifies requirements for an EMS to help organizations improve environmental performance and compliance with regulations through a systematic approach. Key aspects of an EMS include assessing environmental impacts, setting objectives and targets, implementing programs, reviewing performance, and maintaining documentation. Companies implement EMS and seek ISO 14001 certification to improve sustainability, gain credibility with stakeholders, and keep up with increasing environmental regulations and concerns.

NOSA’s very own Head of Innovation, Dr Deonie Botha, deliberated the fact that the business environment is complex in nature and that organisations need to function like complex adaptive systems to be robust and ensure long-term sustainability. ISO 45001 emphasises a multitude of technical and non-technical factors, which organisations need to manage in order to ensure compliance. However, Deonie also highlighted how it will also serve as a tool to assist organisations in being robust and ensuring sustainability.
This webinar discusses how leveraging technology can help streamline environmental management programs to improve their performance and efficiencies. It covers how capturing, tracking, and reporting environmental data and processes electronically in a centralized system can provide better visibility into metrics, ensure consistent compliance, and integrate sustainability efforts across an organization. Attendees will learn how environmental stewardship can be enhanced through leveraging the power of technology tools.
This document discusses environmental management systems (EMS). An EMS allows an organization to evaluate, control, and reduce its environmental impacts through a set of management processes. The commonly used framework is the ISO 14001 standard, which involves four phases - getting started, planning, implementation, and checking/acting. Key benefits of an EMS include improved efficiency, environmental management, and relationships with regulators. Successful implementation requires top management support, dedicated resources, strong implementation teams, and training.

We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life.
