IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 1,789 student branches in 80 countries 483 student branch chapters at colleges and universities 390 affinity groups -- IEEE Affinity Groups are non-technical sub-units of one or more Sections or a Council. The Affinity Group patent entities are Consultants' Network, Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD), Women in Engineering (WIE) and Life Members (LM) Organize or participate various activities in university campus
IEEE Student Branches Industry Relations (ISBIR) Program I EEE S tudent B ranches I ndustry R elations First and only initiative proposed by student volunteers Approved in 2007 by IEEE Board of Directors with high-priority A program to bring industry, university and students together An extensive online career center with a huge database of CVs and job offers A browsable database of student organizations and events to choose from
ISBIR Goals T o make university-industry closer to each other T o bring the benefits of industry world into the IEEE world and vice versa T o combine all industry related actions of IEEE Student Branches in one program T o increase awareness and visibility of IEEE services & membership advantages within the industry T o utilize potential of IEEE volunteers in reaching to industry
ISBIR Goals T o increase the awareness of industry relations within all IEEE regions T o establish a global network for sharing experience between IEEE volunteers T o guide and support IEEE volunteers in their industry related activities T o give the chance of presenting university students’ own projects and ideas to industry while they are studying
How ISBIR covers the world
Matching of Local Expectations Global Company ISBIR Local Student Contacts (LSC) Local Officers Local Steps Companies determine their prior countries Give the corresponding local office contacts ISBIR reach related Local Student Contacts Local meeting arranged to share mutual expectations Local cooperation items determined and reported Local Matching Platform
Collaboration Example: Microsoft R8 SBC 2008 Micosoft HQ Reaching 6 prior MS Local Offices Jordan Matching each MS Local Officers with ISBIR Local Student Contacts ISBIR Task Force 19 positions from 10 different countries IEEE HQ MSDN AA Free Software Opportunity for IEEE Student Members S2B Spain India Nigeria Portugal Singapore
Success Stories Technical and Equipment Support for the fields of simulation, game development by Intel ISBIR support for placing IEEE student members to Vodafone Internship Positions Vendor Demo Kit Program with Texas Instruments Support to increase Microsoft Tech clubs 83 internship and job positions from more than 10 global companies
Expectations Inform ISBIR about local and global expectations of your company Determine prior regions for local matching Start to benefit from ISBIR free of charge such as Announcement of career opportunities and positions Technical collaboration with project groups Opportunity to be involved in hundreds of IEEE events
Cooperation Alternatives Guide student to specific technical projects via Demo Kits Access to high-qualified network in a desired destination or university by announcing career opportunities Organize or participate various activities in university campus Start benefiting from IEEE corporate advantages and products
