Your gearbox can make or break your overall cooling tower performance. This is why it is important to complete the necessary gearbox maintenance. Find out if you could you be setting your gearbox up for failure without even knowing.
The 1999 Honda Civic was brought in with stalling issues. Upon inspection, the technician found multiple problems including a cracked exhaust manifold, an oil leak from a bad gasket, and old coolant. Testing confirmed the ignition switch was likely causing stalling per an open recall. The diagnostic plan was to replace the manifold, oil pan gasket, and perform a coolant flush. After repairs, the car was verified to start properly and no longer stall without oil leaks, completing the project.
Cooling towers use evaporation and heat transfer to cool water. Hot water is distributed over fill materials inside the tower to maximize exposure to rising air. This allows heat to transfer from the water to the air, cooling the water down before it is recirculated. There are two main types of cooling towers: natural draft and mechanical draft. Performance depends on factors like entering air wet bulb temperature, relative humidity, and water losses from evaporation, drift, and blowdown.

This document provides instructions for collecting and filtering used cooking oil to be used as fuel in a PlantDrive system. It outlines a 6 step process including selecting oil from restaurants, letting it settle for 2 weeks, inspecting it, testing for water content, and filtering it with a 70 micron wand before installing a Vormax onboard filter. It emphasizes getting good quality liquid oil, avoiding dumpster diving, and providing restaurants with funnels to make oil collection easy for them.
The document provides instructions for changing engine oil in 12 steps. It explains that engine oil lubricates engine parts to prevent damage from friction. The oil picks up dirt particles from fuel and the filter removes them. Over time, oil loses its cleaning ability and must be changed. It also discusses factors to consider when choosing engine oil type and viscosity, such as climate and driving conditions. Regular oil changes are important for engine protection.
The document discusses potential causes of a ticking engine noise in a car. Low engine oil level can cause ticking as components are not properly lubricated. A misfiring fuel injector opening and closing valves too quickly can also produce ticking. Damage or wear to reciprocating components like pushrods, pistons, and valves rotating improperly can result in ticking. Rod knocking from a worn bearing and valves not being properly adjusted as they open and close can likewise lead to ticking engine noises.

DEEP LEARNING FOR SMART GRID INTRUSION DETECTION: A HYBRID CNN-LSTM-BASED MODELgerogepatton
As digital technology becomes more deeply embedded in power systems, protecting the communication
networks of Smart Grids (SG) has emerged as a critical concern. Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3)
represents a multi-tiered application layer protocol extensively utilized in Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA)-based smart grids to facilitate real-time data gathering and control functionalities.
Robust Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are necessary for early threat detection and mitigation because
of the interconnection of these networks, which makes them vulnerable to a variety of cyberattacks. To
solve this issue, this paper develops a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) model specifically designed for intrusion
detection in smart grids. The proposed approach is a combination of the Convolutional Neural Network
(CNN) and the Long-Short-Term Memory algorithms (LSTM). We employed a recent intrusion detection
dataset (DNP3), which focuses on unauthorized commands and Denial of Service (DoS) cyberattacks, to
train and test our model. The results of our experiments show that our CNN-LSTM method is much better
at finding smart grid intrusions than other deep learning algorithms used for classification. In addition,
our proposed approach improves accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, achieving a high detection
accuracy rate of 99.50%.

Embedded machine learning-based road conditions and driving behavior monitoringIJECEIAES
Car accident rates have increased in recent years, resulting in losses in human lives, properties, and other financial costs. An embedded machine learning-based system is developed to address this critical issue. The system can monitor road conditions, detect driving patterns, and identify aggressive driving behaviors. The system is based on neural networks trained on a comprehensive dataset of driving events, driving styles, and road conditions. The system effectively detects potential risks and helps mitigate the frequency and impact of accidents. The primary goal is to ensure the safety of drivers and vehicles. Collecting data involved gathering information on three key road events: normal street and normal drive, speed bumps, circular yellow speed bumps, and three aggressive driving actions: sudden start, sudden stop, and sudden entry. The gathered data is processed and analyzed using a machine learning system designed for limited power and memory devices. The developed system resulted in 91.9% accuracy, 93.6% precision, and 92% recall. The achieved inference time on an Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense with a 32-bit CPU running at 64 MHz is 34 ms and requires 2.6 kB peak RAM and 139.9 kB program flash memory, making it suitable for resource-constrained embedded systems.

Using recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) for pavements is crucial to achieving sustainability. Implementing RCA for new pavement can minimize carbon footprint, conserve natural resources, reduce harmful emissions, and lower life cycle costs. Compared to natural aggregate (NA), RCA pavement has fewer comprehensive studies and sustainability assessments.

Analysis This
Quarter?
Do You Have
Vibration
Monitoring?
YES!
YES!
NO
Great! If your oil
level has been
checked you are on
your way to having
zero gearbox
issues. If your oil
has debris, you may
want to change it
right away!
Stop right here and
go check your oil.
Look for debris, and
check the oil level.
Low oil is one of the
most common
issues as to why a
gearbox will fail.
OK, now we are
impressed, you
probably should
win a maintenance
award. Your gear-
box is looking to be
in great shape!
We won’t scold you,
were happy that you
are checking your oil.
We do recommend the
Karl Fisher analysis for
accurate water content.
Every analysis should
include viscosity and a
total acid number
(TAN). An increase in
both and your oil
should be changed
immediately.
NO
Does Your Oil
Need to be
Changed?
YES!NO
Oil should be changed
at 2,500 hours or every
6 months. When look-
ing to change your oil,
be sure there are no
Extreme Pressure or
“EP” additives. They
have been proven to
cause damage to the
internal lining of the
gear case over time
and will significantly
reduce the bearing life.
YES! NO
Bravo! You are
taking the right
steps towards your
preventative
maintenance care
for your gearbox.
Your gearbox
should have a long
and prosperous life!
Vibration switches will
prevent catastrophic
failure, alerting you
when there is too much
vibration on your gear
box. Consider using a
vibration transducer.
This gives a more
accurate reading and
can help with
diagnostics and the
prevention of failure.
