2. I write my blog based upon random thoughts that I have the day or
night before. This week, I thought about what my neighbor said to me years
ago, "Don't ever let a man take you out of your parents' house unless you have
a wedding ring on your finger!" Why this came to me, I couldn't tell you. What
she meant by this was that I should never move in with someone unless I was
his wife. Subsequently, I also thought about what my father told me about my
last boyfriend. "Why would he marry you when he is already getting the milk
for free?"
You see, I was in a seven year long distance relationship and when
we would visit one another, we would "play house" ( a saying old people used
to use). In other words, we would temporarily live together, sleep in the same
bed, and act like a married couple without the ceremony and legal documents.
I often wonder if the demise of my relationship was because I had given too
much of myself instead of holding back and leaving something for his
imagination (or keep him guessing and wanting more). This leaves me to this
week's topic of discussion - is moving in with your significant other a good or
bad idea?

The good things about moving in are that you get to
spend more time with one another, you share the
expenses, and you get to really see if you are
compatible.

5. The Good
You and your boyfriend/girlfriend are
becoming serious. Work and other
commitments keep you from seeing each
other as much as you would like. You are
starting to fall in love and are grappling over
the notion of getting married.
 Before you guys make such a permanent
decision, you decide to try moving in with
one another. Once the decision has been
made, you realize that you are getting to see
the person you love much more than before.
The two of you can have dinner together
every night and wake up in each other's arms
every morning. It's great.

6. Well, you and your boyfriend/girlfriend have been dating for
a while and you are both tired of going home and getting
clothes from your house. You are each finding yourselves
spending more time at each other's places rather than at your
own home. Essentially you are paying rent at one apartment,
while living with someone else and taking care of their
residence. It gets tedious.
You love each other and decide that you want to try moving in
together. The great thing is that the bills that you were paying
while living alone, have been cut in half because you are sharing
expenses with the person you love - a two for one.

Now that the two of you are settled in and the "getting used to living together
stage is over, you find that the two of you mesh well. Your relationship is
becoming stronger and you find that any apprehension or reservations you
may have had were for nothing. It was the best decision you have ever made.

Now that the two of you have settled in and the honeymoon (so-to-speak)
is over, you find that the two of you are not compatible at all.
Unfortunately, one may find that after living with this person, he/she may
not like their boyfriend/girlfriend at all for a myriad of reasons. For
example, one may be better with finances than the other. Who knows?

• He/she is still single.
That is correct. The two
of you may be
committed but not
married. He/She will
still see you as just a
girlfriend/boyfriend and
his/her behavior will
reflect as such.
• What if you break up?
Who's name is on the
lease and who will be
moving out? What if
you don't have the
income to move out
and you have to stay
until you can afford to
leave?

18. Conclusion
Moving in and living together can be
an enjoyable experience or a
horrifying one. Either way, it is a
chance at love. Married people who
have never lived together can end up
divorced for the same exact reasons as
those who have lived together.
However, the main question is - do
men have a level of respect for those
he would ask to marry as opposed to
those he asks to lives with?
 Another way to put this is, does it
matter that you are only asked to be
the one he lives with rather than being
asked to be his wife? Does that title
carry weight for you? Some people do
not care about getting married. A lot
of couples end up married after living
together and some couples do not.

19. As I always end my blogs, it depends
upon the couple. Some people don't think
as hard about things as I do. They just take
caution to the wind and do things that they
feel will make them happy. To be honest
with you, sometimes that is the best way
to live. However, there are always
consequences for your decisions and
actions.
