Rabbi Crystal’s Plan
Rabbi Crystal laid out a very clear plan of how he
would help us determine what it is that our
community needs to do. While he made it clear
that we need to do that work as a community, he
shared with us a sample of the many resources and
kinds of guidance he can provide to move us
forward.
Rabbi Crystal will work closely with our President
and staff to ensure that communication between
lay leadership, clergy, staff, and the congregation
remains open.
Experience
• More than 10 years of “interim” experience
working at synagogues of all sizes with all
sorts of challenges
• 18 years of experience as a congregational
Rabbi in New York, with the last six years as
the senior Rabbi
• Extensive coursework in Organizational
Development
Advance Support
• Will act as consultant to lay leadership and the
Congregational Needs Committee during the
winter and spring, helping us to create a vision
for our community
• Will spend several days on site in March,
meeting with different groups, to perform an
initial assessment of the congregation and
began to plan for next year
Worship and
Life Cycle Events
• Will work with RP committee and lead weekly
services and honor life-cycle event according
to our minhag (custom)
• Will start reaching out to B’Nai Mitzvah
students and their families prior to his arrival
in July
• Will work with Rachel and Rabbi Zoob to
support the needs of our community
Pastoral Care
and Learning
• Will always be available to meet with
congregants, to listen to them, discuss their
feelings, and help them move forward
• Will teach adults and children, as our needs
are determined, and work with Aviva to
strengthen our religious school
Preparation for the Future
• Will assist in the preparation of our CCAR
application for the settled Rabbi position
• Will assist the Rabbi Search Committee in
their work, helping them to define our needs,
develop ways to determine if the various
candidates meet our requirements, and create
interview strategies
• Will prepare a “handbook” of sorts, to pass on
to our new settled Rabbi
