An ArcGIS Server-based framework called IPAS (Infrastructure Placement Analysis System) was developed to support oil and gas exploration and production decision making. IPAS integrates spatial data and models to analyze potential environmental impacts of proposed infrastructure and facilitate communication between drillers and regulators. It uses uncertainty buffers and likelihood of impact rankings to assess proximity to sensitive areas. The developers seek to expand IPAS to new plays and incorporate water resource modeling to support permitting.
