The Prahova Valley region in Romania is a popular tourist destination known for its winter sports. Some of the major towns in the region include Azuga, Predeal, Busteni, and Sinaia. Predeal, located in the mountains, is Romania's highest town and has several ski slopes for winter sports. Sinaia is located in the protected Bucegi Natural Park region and has restrictions on cutting down trees and collecting alpine plants to preserve the natural environment. The region is considering hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics after having to withdraw its bid for the 2013 European Youth Olympics.
