You are cordially invited…
Recently, Marywood University’s School of Social Work and Administrative Studies was
awarded a gift of $25,000. We have decided to establish a brand new Center for Social
Justice and Community Collaboration (CSJCC) with the funds.
Our mission is simple: to put the values of social work into action in order to construct a
beneficent, symbiotic relationship between the surrounding community and the School of
Social Work. We want to fosterpositive relationships between community leaders, agencies,
and organizations and Marywood towards the common goals of justice and equality. We also
want to make sure that as we send our students out into the community upon their field
placements that they do not become completely unmoored from the resources and support
that they need.
That is why we extend this invitation to you, as one of those outside leaders, agencies, or
organizations, to collaborate with us on this new and exciting project.
Various potential agendas for the center:
 Continuing education conferences (two per academic year)
 An alliance with the current Institute for Social Work Research, Education, &
Consultation (ISWREC) in the Pocono Valley and the Center for Advancement in
Social Work Practice (CASP) in the Lehigh Valley.
 Off-site continuing education within the ISWREC.
 Agency consultation (involving topics such as program evaluation)
 Participatory research studies involving the area’s Bhutanese refugee population.
 Community-based research studies and projects involving students with populations
taken from area schools, groups at risk for HIV infection, and adults with
disabilities.
 Implementation of student proposals forprograms and research projects, such as a
program developed between students and the University towards the education of
first-year students on sexual assault that is currently underway.
 Unique field placements, such as placing students within the office of Senator
Blake.
 And much, much more… the sky’s the limit!
If you are interested in participating in the newly christened Marywood University’s School
of Social Work Center for Social Justice and Community Collaboration, please contact our
academic director, Diane Keller, whose information is listed below.
