Foundation to Effective Disciple Making
We must develop a culture of Christ followers that becomes a natural part of life when people go to the
grocery store, to work, or meet with friends.
The church needs a culture shift to obey the command, “Go and make disciples (Christ followers) of all
nations” (Matthew 28:18-20). One becomes a disciple before he or she becomes a disciple maker.
Motivation is what gets you started. Skills are your ability to perform godly tasks. Knowledge and skills are key
enablers to achieve godly goals.
We acquire skillsets like disciple-making through training, experience or natural abilities. Knowledge is a
prerequisite to skills. Knowledge enables you to become a skilled disciple maker, and you can’t do it without
knowledge. The more knowledge about disciple-making and the more skilled in executing it, the greater the
likelihood of godly success. Knowledge and skills are mostly associated with learning developed through teaching
or experience.
Positive attitudes (multiplier of knowledge and skills for godly goals) are results of our beliefs and values to
form habits of thought, which impacts how we see ourselves and shapes significantly our godly behaviors. Habit is
what keeps you going. Attitudes and habits are cultivated through mentoring.
1. Motivation—Model: Begin small groups to restore image of God through prayer and forgiveness
2. Knowledge—Mimic: Cultivate reconciled, Spirit-filled and unified relationships for accountability
3. Skills—Mentor: Embrace identity in Christ and God’s power to equip disciples
4. Attitude—Mobilize: Rely on Holy Spirit to impart God’s word for kingdom-based leaders
5. Behavior—Multiply: Train disciple makers in kingdom authority to penetrate unbelieving cultures
6. Behavior—Master: Reproduce disciple-making by training Spirit-led leaders in Genesis to Revelation
A lot of people live an ordinary life. They have a job and go to work. They have friends they see occasionally.
Maybe they even have a family they go home to.
What if there was a bigger picture? What if God had a plan for you that was better than anything you could imagine?
A plan that involved deeper relationships? Deeper connection?
What if this plan involved you being the catalyst to your friends and family and co-workers experiencing the same?
Over the next 5 weeks, we’re going to talk about how God actively works on your behalf.
He wants you to experience life that’s extraordinary.
God brings people to come
alongside you to help you live in
the best possible way.
Not only that, He wants you
to be a positive influence to
change your part of the world.
Don’t settle for an ordinary life.
Step into the life God
called you to live.
desires to engage in biblical practic
1. Motivation are aspirations and
desires to engage in biblical practices
• Original Design-
People blame circumstances for who
they are. God created Adam in image of
God (e.g. compassion, justice, faithful)
to rule over the earth. He and Eve
disobeyed His command eating from
the tree of knowledge of good & evil,
which fractured their relationship with
God leading to fear, shame and anger.
a. Why is it important to know
my original identity and destiny?
(Pray over Gen. 1:26-28; 2:25: 3:1-13)
• New Insight-
It is my heart’s desire that I must be NO
more, that He be KNOWN more. Since
God reconciled (from enemy to friend)
the world to Himself through Christ,
peoples’ right response is to receive,
not work for forgiveness. Jesus forgave
unconditionally the woman caught in
adultery and then said, “sin no more.”
b. Why should unconditional forgiveness
from Christ motivate me to share that
good news with others? (Pray over
2 Cor. 5:17-21: John 1:12; 8:3-5, 10-11)
2. Knowledge is understanding the
principles in God’s word.
• New Potential-
Grace binds you with far stronger
cords than the cords of duty or
obligation can bind you. God credits
righteousness (what I ought to be),
forgives my sin, and reconciles me to
Him when I believe in Christ’s death
and resurrection.
c. Why is righteousness, forgiveness,
reconciliation so important?
(Pray over Romans 4:1-8; 5:8-11)
• New Relationship-
The church is God’s plan to build
healthy cities, but His people often
rely on government to solve problems
in housing, jobs, violence or social
opportunities. The New Covenant
puts God’s law in my mind and writes
it on my heart for direct access to
Christ motivated by love, grace and
intimacy.
d. Why New Covenant changes dynamic
in my relationship with Christ? (Pray
over Ezek. 36:26-27; Hebrews 8:8-13)
3. Skills are capacities and abilities so
participants can apply God’s word.
• New Identity-
The deeper we are willing to enter
into the death of self, the more shall
we know of the mighty power of God.
Christ’s death, burial & resurrection
puts to death my old nature and
makes me alive in Him as a new
creation being completely identified
by baptism (Christ died, I died; Christ
buried, I buried; Christ arose, I arose).
e. Why do these truths allow me to stop
sinning and walk in newness of life?
(Pray over Romans 6:1-14; Gal. 2:20)
• New Power-
We must know the power of the
blood if we are to know the power
of God. Jesus as King prayed "Your
kingdom come, and Your will
be done on earth as it’s in heaven."
Jesus’ death on the cross defeated
Satan’s rule so I can be set free
from sin and live supernaturally.
f. Why is it important that Christ as King
defeated power of darkness?
(Pray over Matt. 6:9-10; Heb. 2:14-15)

4. Attitudes are the beliefs we want
participants to value from God’s word.
• New Growth-
The basic problem of the Christians is
that they have seen things in bits and
pieces instead of totals. Even though I
have a new heart and spirit, previous
habits cause me to live according to
worldly influences, but now I can rely
on the Holy Spirit to renew my mind
through the truth of God’s word.
g. Why rely on the Holy Spirit to renew
my mind through God’s word? (Pray
over Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:19-24)
• New Interaction-
We are trying to find benefits in our
loss of spiritual power by highly
organized and expensive methods
borrowed from the world. I now have
a father-son relationship with Christ by
listening to the Holy Spirit and
dialoguing with words taught by Him.
h. Why does two-way dialogue with the
Holy Spirit make a huge difference in
my relationship with Christ? (Pray
over 1 Cor. 2:11-12; Romans 8:5-17).
5. Behaviors are consistent application of
knowledge and skills driven by the right
attitudes/aspirations from God’s word.
• New Lifestyle-
The church got the keys to apply
Scripture in today’s world—being
strict on some things and more loose
on others. I have the supernatural
power of kingdom authority knowing
that hell can’t stand against it when I
make disciples of all nations.
i. Why does having faith in the keys of
the kingdom cause a huge difference
to making disciples? (Pray over
Matthew 16:15-19; Hebrews 11:1)
• New Purpose-
The Bible is not the basis of missions.
Missions is the basis of the Bible.
Christ gave me kingdom authority to
make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of Father, Son and
Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey
everything He commanded.
j. Why is it important knowing that
Christ will be with us until the end of
the age as I make disciples?
(Pray over Matthew 28:18-20)
6. Behaviors are consistent application of
knowledge and skills driven by the right
attitudes/aspirations from God’s word.
• New Direction-
The proof I love someone is my
actions, words, and sacrifice. Devote
myself to prayer and be led by the
Holy Spirit regarding who, what,
where, when, and how to share the
gospel and with whom to disciple.
k. Why is it critical to communicate the
gospel and disciple others with
prayer, clarity, wisdom and grace?
(Pray over Colossians 4:2-6)
• New Reproduction-
We should not ask, "What is wrong
with the world?" for that diagnosis
has already been given. Rather, we
should ask, "What has happened to
the salt and light?" The power of
multiplication occurred when Jesus
trained 12 apostles and Paul trained
people in 3 missionary journeys and
said there was “no place left” for him.
l. Why is it critical to be like a good
soldier, athlete, and farmer as we
train disciples? (Pray over Romans
15:17-23; 2 Timothy 2:2-7).
