- From my experience in the corporate world, Android is gaining popularity
- Written in XML – Similar to HTML XML – Extensible Markup Language
- App components are the essential building blocks of an Android app. Each component is an entry point through which the system or a user can enter your app. Some components depend on others. Each type serves a distinct purpose and has a distinct lifecycle that defines how the component is created and destroyed.
- Example: Spotify Must create own Thread for Async operations Services must be started from other Components, commonly Activities and Broadcast Receivers Must declare in Android Manifest Required to inherit, extend, from Service class Most Services are started using the startService( intent ) through the use of an Intent
- Ex: Sports app
- Can use form of Data Persistence used Tip – Use a 3rd party Library, instead, see Margret Maynard Reed talk for more info
- Room – DAO, Alternative to SQLite View Model - Firebase – Cloud storage
- Butterknife – Field and Method binding for Views
