1. Introduction
Database Management System (DBMS), is a course designed in the pursuit of a degree in B.
Tech, CSE. This course is relevant to students studying computer Science engineering as it helps
manage the database and manipulate the backend. Thus it provides a thorough understanding of
how to manipulate, design and manage databases.
Aim
Behind the development and design of this course is to know how to design, manipulate and
manage databases. The course participants are exposed to the various forms, types and models of
database systems to enable them make viable choices. Supportive and complimentary concepts
of managing and designing the database, data and documents are thoroughly examined to give a
wholesome view of data/information management. The ultimate aim is to encourage the usage of
database management systems for effective data management.
Objective of the Course
This course will allow students to develop background knowledge as well as core expertise in
Database Management Systems. The students will learn Database concept, Data Structure, Data
Models, various approaches to Database design, strengths of relational model, Normalization.
At the end of the course the student will be able to
1. Understand Database design and normalization techniques.
2. Use Standard Query Language and its various versions.
3. Understand Importance of backup and recovery techniques.
4. Develop Database system to handle the real world problem.
