Indonesia is a vast tropical country of sprawling
archipelago with more than 17,000 islands extremely
diverse culture and demographic make-up with over
300 ethnic groups, and speaking more than 700
living languages. Indonesia has the largest Muslim
population in the world. Indonesia also has
considerably significant numbers of Christian
Protestant and Catholics population, also Hindu
that mostly inhabit the island of Bali, and Buddhist
that mostly Chinese Indonesians. In some remote
areas, tribal animism still survives.

Smile!
Avoid expressing a negative air of resentment, arrogance or hostility
Do not step on or over the Gamelan (Instruments)
Do not step on or over people
Do not touch anyone's head
Do not point with your foot or left hand
Do not sit with the sole of your foot to someone
Only give and receive items with your right hand
Do not eat/drink during class/rehearsal (except water)
Do not blow your nose with tissue “unashamedly”
Individualism, especially among traditional community is considered
arrogance and shunned upon

Continued...The Balinese Caste System is still relatively strong. A “common
man” must not stand/sit higher than an “aristocrat” or priest.
When passing by an elder or in between people, one should bow
down and reach their right hand forward and downward in front of
them to say “excuse me”
Low, Middle, High Balinese Languages & Kawi (Archaic
Java/Sanskrit)
Low = Malayo-Polynesian dialects / High = Sanskrit-Javanese origin
Middle Language used when caste is unknown
It is a compliment to belch after a meal
It disrespectful to show affection for a lover in public
One always offers guests food & drink and its often though rude if
you deny it. The guest often will not partake in refreshments or wait
for guest to be satisfied first.
