Research excellence
Despite being a relatively young university, Macquarie has established an enviable reputation
for research excellence, particularly in the sciences, social sciences and professional disciplines.
In 2012, the Australian Government’s Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation,
Macquarie achieved a maximum 5 rating (indicating performance well above world standard)
in three research disciplines: Earth sciences, environmental sciences and physical sciences. In
total, 85 per cent of Macquarie’s research activity was rated as world standard or higher.
