2. OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
In order to improve your interviewing skills, just as you
would your on the job sales skills, it’s important to be able
to self-assess your performance. This checklist provides you
with questions and topics to reflect on before and after you
have completed a face to face interview.
3. ARRIVAL
1. What time did you arrive? Are you 10-15 minutes early?
Did you show up late, even just a few minutes?
2. How did you feel about your chances of getting this job
when you first arrived?
3. Is this a job you really wanted when you walked in the
door?
4. INTRODUCTION AND OPENING
1. Did you introduce yourself and shake the hand of
everyone in attendance?
2. Did you provide a copy of your resume for each
interviewer?
3. Were you smiling and courteous during the intro, or too
nervous to notice?
5. DURING THE INTERVIEW
Soft skills
1. Did I show that I was listening to the
questions by providing relevant and
detailed answers and examples?
2. Did I maintain appropriate eye contact
while being asked a question and when
answering?
3. Did I fidget or appear nervous?
4. Did I give positive signals about my
interest in the position?
a. Was I sitting up and leaning
forward?
Hard Skills
1. Did I convey that I have adequate
knowledge of the product? Service?

2. Did I have an adequate understanding of
the market place and the position of the
product?
3. Did I know the competitors and the
customer base?
4. Did I show that I have the skill set and

this role?
6. CLOSING THE INTERVIEW
1. Did I ask good questions to show my interest and
knowledge of the opportunity?
2. Did I learn about the hiring manager and whether or not I
would like to work with him or her?
3. Did I close for the next steps in the hiring process?
4. Do I know what the next steps are and what is the
timeframe?

1. How do I feel about my chances of getting the job now?
2. Is this a job I am more or less interested in landing?
3. What did I do well during the interview?
