Ron Rhodes is completing an internship at B&B Contractors and Developers in Youngstown, Ohio, where he works under project manager Paul Mirage on various tasks like take-offs, schedules, phone calls, and attending job site meetings. Through this internship, Rhodes hopes to gain experience in the construction field and improve his communication skills by interacting with industry professionals, which he has done by running project meetings and calling subcontractors. To fulfill his 400-hour internship requirement, Rhodes worked last summer and is continuing this summer, with plans to finish on July 26th, 2013 after completing the remaining hours.

For my internship requirement I have been working at B&B Contractors and
Developers in Youngstown, Ohio. B&B is a general contractor that specializes in
development, commercial, and industrial construction. My supervisors name is
Paul Mirage. Paul is a project manager with B&B and can be reached by phone at
the office at 330-270-5020 or by email at pmirage@bbcdonline.com. The work that
I do takes place in their office located at 2781 Salt Springs Road, Youngstown,
Ohio 44509.
For my internship I work with Paul by doing whatever he needs done. My duties
range from doing take-offs, to looking at schedules, making phone calls, going to
pick things up, and anything else that needs done in the office. I also go along with
him when he goes to job sites. Last summer I attended weekly jobsite meeting at
a project at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. Last summer I also went down
every other week to a mall project in St. Clairsville. This summer I go to a jobsite
in Villa Maria Pennsylvania. Another thing that I do is update plans and label the
changes as new revisions come in.
With this internship I hope to gain experience in the field and improve my
communication skills. I have learned a lot in the field just by talking to different
people that have a wide variety of experiences in the field. I have also learned how
to run a project meeting by sitting in on some. I improved my communication skills
by talking to people in the field and calling sub-contractors to ask whether or not
they were bidding on a project and answering questions that they had.
To complete my hours I worked both last summer and this summer. Last
summer, I completed about 230 hours of the 400 hour required and this summer I
am completing the rest. I started working here at the beginning of last summer and
will be finishing up my work here in July 26th, 2013.
