DEFINITION
Internet Addiction is a behavioural addiction in which a person
becomes dependent on use of the internet, or other online devices as a
maladaptive way of coping with the life's stresses.
CHARACTERISTICS
• Loss of control
• Preoccupation
• Salience
• Dysphoric moods
CAUSES
There is no single cause of Internet Addiction. Several
factors can play a role, including:
• Underlying mental health condition including Anxiety
and Depression
• Loneliness and Alienation
• Genetics
• Environmental factors
SYMPTOMS
The following symptoms are typical of online addicts:
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Isolation
• Feelings of Euphoria when using the computer
• Dishonest
• Defensiveness
• Agitation
• Mood Swings
• Fear
• Loneliness
• Procrastination
• Boredom with routine task
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS
• Back ache
• Head aches
• Insomnia
• Poor Nurition and Personal Hygene
