Almost 20 years ago I had a conversation with my sister during one of her collegiate volleyball
seasons. She was disappointed that her playing time had diminished. I asked her, "Would you rather
be a star player on a losing team, or a contributor on a National Championship Team?" Let that
question sink in for a minute.
Today, we are in a society that we earn our worth by how many likes we get on a social media post.
We write reviews on businesses instantly and think the rest of the world truly cares what our opinion
is. As parents we sit in the stands and feel the winning percentage of the team defines who we are as

Records weigh heavily in the highly competitive world of college football. Every season a coach
puts his career on the line and when games are lost, so is their job. Several coaches who have had
the same lack of success that Paterno has had lately have lost their jobs. Bob Davie was fired from

There are several ethical issues in the news lately about the treatment college athletes are receiving
compared to the non–athletic students of universities. Is the practice of favoring athletes and
bending the rules in the favor of universities to enable the best college sports stars to play ethical?
Two major ethical issues that have been in the public eye as of late is cheating and grade tampering,
and recruiting tactics. Both of these actions are unethical, but it still isn't stopping universities

I don't know many guys my age who could refuse that situation. But in reality, those recruiting
tactics are not morally correct. Not only is it not fair to other schools looking for their next sports
star, but athletes will be coming to a university for all the wrong reasons. In conclusion, it is a fact
that athletes, especially at larger universities across the country get special treatment in regards to
academic issues and lifestyle. Universities will go to any extent to protect their players from being
academically ineligible to play, and seems they will do anything to get the best recruits in the
country to give their team an advantage. It is hard for the NCAA to enforce strict rules, especially
academically because schools have academic freedom which enables universities to make their own
classroom policies. The NCAA asks, "If a certain institution permits grade changes for students up
through and even after the final exam, how do you hold athletes to a different standard?" In reality, it
is almost impossible to hold athletes to a different standard, and as long as this loop hole exists,
colleges will be using any method enticing athletes to come to their school and continue to play

The materials that I used to create this project were two white poster boards, letter and football
shape stencils, black permanent marker, glue, and computer–generated football field. To create a
football atmosphere, I selected a football field background and used footballs to list my strengths
and weaknesses. I also decided to use team helmets as the focal point on each poster board. When
looking at the Ohio State Buckeye poster, my strengths, one will notice that the helmet is
exceptionally large. The helmet is also decorated with buckeye leaf stickers. These stickers are

When selecting a college, the undergraduate major can be a huge deciding factor. At Ohio State,
there are more than 160 different undergraduate programs, so it is hard to find one that does not fit
someone's personality ("How Does Ohio"). However, Capital only has 60 undergraduate programs

With that being said, I personally have experienced that. I was all set on pursuing a college football
career and was actually starting to get recruited heavily by colleges after my sophomore football
season. However, my sophomore basketball season had different plans. During a basketball game, I
received a knee to my right thigh. Along with everyone else, I just assumed it was a bad charlie
horse. The next day came, and I could not walk and ended up collapsing in the hallway at school and
had to be helped to the office. I ended up having what they call Compartment Syndrome and had to
have emergency surgery on my thigh. After my surgery and many months of therapy I was still not
the same athlete I was before. I was not able to cut and make the same football moves I made before
my surgery. I also lost all the teams recruiting me. Although I had a serious injury outside of the
sport I wanted a future in, I also had major injuries in football. During football I had multiple

graduate of Otterbein College, Luneborg said his mother was a Buckeye. He 's been going to games
since he was a young boy, and this is the first year he can remember the family not having season
football tickets to the Shoe. Luneborg has been employed by the East Holmes Local School District

I was born December 27th, 1997, son of Steve Metzler and Tiffany Detty–Metzler. My father's line
of work a supervisor at Merilatt in Jackson, Ohio. My mother was an educational aid at the Buckeye

university has a rich history where several famous players and coaches have emerged. One famous
coach in particular is Jim Tressel, who coached at Ohio State from 2001 until 2011. During his
tenure, he had a winning record that came to an abrupt end as a result of multiple ethics violations.
Tressel's full range leadership, critical thinking, team dynamics and ethical behaviors will be

Through its use of myths, rituals, devotion of the fans, and use of space as well as time, Ohio State
Football seems to be more then just a sport to many people, it seems to be a religion.
In this paper I will aim to show that, as the world seems to become more secular through modernity
there also seems to be a "resacralization" of the world. Looking specifically at the resacralization of
the world, I hope to show that sports can function as a religion; particularly within the context of
Ohio State Football. I will aim to find clear patterns and themes between traditional and/or primal
religions and the Ohio State Football Culture. These patterns allow the culture to act as a new form
of religion, blurring the line between the sacred and profane.
