Review of Environmental and Social
Impact Assessment and Master Plan
Report Resettlement
KfW approached Sweco regarding the
joint Lai Chau hydro-power project with
Vietnam Electricity. KfW needed a review
of the existing Environmental and Social
Impact Assessment (ESIA) and a Master
Plan Report for Resettlement. The project
required a combination of expertise areas
and KfW was able to benefit from our social
and environmental experts in Denmark
and our hydropower specialists in Sweden.
The required experts were identified and
deployed within a few weeks. The review
– based on international and Vietnamese
standards and legislation - identified
several important improvements which
were included the in the action plan which
will enable KfW to reduce risk and enhance
the overall value of the project.
