integrated into the design of the E&S
review.
• A cost-effective assessment of the
proposed project’s compliance with
relevant international standards such
as the Equator Principles, World Bank
Safeguards or the IFC Performance
Standards. Assessments will include
practical advice on potential measures
needed for bringing the project in line

Cruise terminal in Jamaica
E&S review process for EKF - Danish Export
Credit Agency
Sweco carried out an E&S review of a pro-
posed cruise terminal in a small harbour on
Jamaica’s north coast where the conditions
are right for luminous phytoplankton forma-
tions, giving it its other name - “Glistening
Waters”. The main issue was effects of
dredging activities located close to sensitive
coral habitats. EKF benefitted from Sweco’s
ability to mobilise Dutch coastal engineer-
ing experts from Sweco Holland to fully
ascertain the environmental impacts of
dredging activities. EKF agreed with the
promoter on a set of mitigation measures,
benefiting both EKF and the promoter.
