4. ENERGY EFFICIENCY
All electrical energy generated at the power stations has two constituents active
and reactive power. Only active power is capable of executing work and being
converted into mechanical, thermal, luminous and chemical energy. Reactive
power cannot be transformed into other kinds of energy nor executes any work.
However, reactive power is consumed by the loads containing electromagnetic
and electric fields.
Advantages of reactive power compensation installations are:
Compensation enables to connect an additional active load without increasing
the total installed capacity of power transformers.
Compensation enables to feed additional load through a cable without
increasing its section.
Compensation enables the user to raise voltage in cases when this is
necessary for industrial processes.
Compensation reduces reactive energy up to 96% and active energy
consumption by 3-4 %, although this can only be possible upon installation of
individual compensating devices.
Compensation allows to more fully utilize the active power of autonomous
